No Way Out But Through

Liner Notes
I've been carrying around "no way out but through" for a while and now that the hours are dwindling, I'm playing all my cards.
Lyrics
When you’re stuck in the middle Of an awful situation And the thought of moving forward Fills you with hesitation It’s not going to be easy But here’s what you must do Say there’s no way out but through
When unpleasant circumstances Rise around you like a wall And you want to take your chances But you’re afraid that you might fall Running ain’t the answer The only thing that’s true Is that there’s no way out but through
The discomfort comes from not knowing But when you’re stuck in hell, you gotta keep going
When you’re waist-deep in river mud Struggling for purchase That’s not the time to give in to Your nihilistic urges When all seems like it might be lost Here’s what I say to you There’s no way out but through

You have a real knack for good poetic and musical phrasing. This song is perfect.
This is another gem. Great advice and a lovely listen.
Whoa, that last verse. "Nihilistic urges"? If you could see my hat, it's off to you.
Yes, that phrase lives with me as well.
Worth the price of admission for that "purchase / urges" rhyme on its own, but there's solid advice at the heart of this, too. Head down, press on.
It's a really good refrain and you set it up really well. The didactic folk song is alive and well. Clever how it doesn't resolve the refrain until the very very end. You gotta get all the way through. And sometimes the through is valuable in and of itself. I really like the melody that sets up the refrain as well. It's really pretty.
A salutory message and you've delivered it with a great tune. There are some cracking lines here. I have no idea how you managed to make the first two lines of verse 3 scan but bravo because it's brilliant! Love the middle 8 too, the chords there are awesome and set us up for the finale. A corking wee song.
great tagline and nice write. sounds great too, acoustically speaking. congrats on a wild fawm!
Certainly true. Last verse is my favorite; oh those nihilistic urges! The premise reminds me of a teacher I had who was involved with EST. His version: you can't go over it, under it or around it. You have to go through it. Good work.
Yes, a very good write indeed. The title line is a great way to bring the verses back. (I need to try to do this more). So effortless. Really good!
Great song! Great message, great lyrics, great chords
