I clicked on the last skirmish and saw the prompt was celebration. Since I had already done one with a prompt of Joy and Celebration I thought I'd go back to an earlier prompt and do that, so I chose cat, and shapeshifter, and this was the result.
Lyrics
I looked at you in the morning The light kissing your hair, The golden flecks within your eyes So beautiful and rare.
I saw you in the evening, You didn't seem to care, No light to burnish you with gold, I could only stand and stare.
You're a shapeshifter First light and then you're dark, You're a shapeshifter, I don't know who you are.
Coming out of the shadows, A black panther on the prowl, You flash your startled eyes at me, I almost hear you growl.
But when you bask in the sunlight You're a lion with a golden mane, Either way you're a big cat, Wild and untamed.

I love it ! You caught me with the second verse, where the rhymes evoke the first verse. Beautiful depiction of a cat ! I could imagine the feline move between lights and shadows while reading your lyrics.

We never know who are cats are. Excellent choice to,combine these. A bit weird for me since we have one cat who looks like a small black panther and one who looks like a lion. I THINK they are two cats but one never knows with cats, do you?

This is very cool. I like the idea of cats, but I also think this could be about a person - kind of reminds me of some of the bloke characters in Joni Mitchell songs, they can be all cheerful and loving some of the time but there's a dark side that ultimately gets in the way of a successful relationship. It's a great idea for a song. #tit4tat

Whoa, these are some super cool lyrics! I like the chorus a lot, it brings out an uncertainty in the reader, though not necessarily the bad kind.

Cats have this mystical aura to them. You have captured that here in a wonderful way. You also capture the dual nature of cats as the soft friendly furballs and apex predators represented here as the interplay between night and day. Very cool concept! #tit4tat

Really enjoyed the split between morning/evening and the shift in imagery. The line about the light kissing your hair is especialy nice.
