My FAWM 2025 Plan: Focus on writing 14 songs and steer clear of the fights, er, the forums.
*** If you are kind enough to listen to my music I will do my best to reciprocate and listen to your music. ***
I don't care if you use AI or not, if you use VSTis or not, if you use synthetic vocals or not, if you use farm animal sounds and auto-tune them into a melody or not. You don't need to announce/confess to me how you created your song or what tools you used.
*** If you are kind enough to listen to my music I will do my best to reciprocate and listen to your music. ***These days I oscillate between profound sadness and disgust and rage. Rage for the monster currently squatting in The Oval Office. Disgust at the millions of Americans who were duped or stupid or hate-filled when they chose the monster. And sadness for the millions of innocent human beings, mothers, fathers, children, this monster will harm before we can finally retake control of our country.
Although I have tried I cannot seem to write an adequate protest song but I will keep trying.

Thank you, John. I’m particularly fond of the Baby on the Train song. Thanks for all your encouragement over the past 4 FAWMs. It’s meant a lot to me.
Thanks for your kind comments! I laughed when you said I must have lived the blues -- I lived 24 years in Chicago , and was somewhat saturated, in every way!! Hope you had a great FAWM -- I sure did!!
Thanks for the great thoughtful comments. Wish we had more time for MALM this year… I have so much music that I still want to listen to. I was certain that you were already on my watchlist from a previous year but refollowed so that we can connect earlier next FAWM.
Thank you so much for your kind comments and thoughts on 'Celebrate'
Thanks for the listen and comment on 'Hannah'!
Thank you!!
Thank you so much! Oh yes, that's been completely group effort!
John, such nice words on Time to Mourn from a songwriter I admire. Thank you! And thanks, too, for being sensitive about the Jesus line in The Fire. The song as you sing it, does seem to indict Jesus, but I had read @jonmeta‘s post first so knew that wasn’t your intention. I think how you’ve changed it in the lyrics works perfectly well as an indictment on those who claim to represent him, but act antithetically to his teachings. I try not to judge - not always successful - but I think exposing hypocrisy (while also acknowledging my own) is important. Jesus was pretty clear that it’s legitimate to call out rotten fruit when we see it.
Looking forward to listening to more of your music (wish we had the whole month of March)! You’ve been on my watchlist for several FAWMs.
Thank you for your kind words for my song Different Kind of Peace - I've forwarded it to my fav artist (who I had a #1 with) and hope that he takes it on board, otherwise I have a backup plan or two to get the song out into the world.
Thanks so much for your comments, and also the offer to possibly be of assistance this summer! I have you down on my spreadsheet. :)
Thanks for the perceptive and uplifting comments John (on "Out Of Time"); much appreciated. 🙏
Pass your thanks onto your wife. Very high praise indeed. I love everything that Radiohead does so to be compared to them in any way is truly amazing!! Thank so much both of you! ☺️
Thank you so much for commenting on "Hollow Dreams". This song came from a very dark place and got very big, thanks to Chris. Really love his contribution! I will return the tit4tat later this week. I'm taking this weekend off to mix and master some stuff, and also do a re-recording as long as it's fresh in my muscle memory.
Thanks for the comments on 'Broken'!
Trust me when I say that the LAST thing that I expected to come out was a polka 😆 I'm with you, polka was um.... er... fine for a specific celebration, maybe? I did love where this went. I'm perhaps a changed man too!
Thank you for your overwhelmingly lovely comments on my song. I am very proud of this one and am planning on re-recording it for the next album so to get your review is reaffirming that it deserves to be on there. Thank you so much! Big smile on my face.
I’ll be doing a load of titting and tatting next week so will get to listen to a few more of your songs. :-)
Your comments are way too effusive on "All the Cool Wolves," but/and I appreciate them!
Thanks so much for the comment on my song “waiting on my luck”! Glad you enjoyed! Can’t wait to give your stuff a listen to!
John you have made my day having just seen your comment on slaughtered lamb. Thank you so so much you beautiful human being. But have to say i have never worked with such incredible lyrics like those of cheryls. It was an honour whilst scary if i could do them justice.
Thank you for your kind comment on "Celebrate!" (https://write.fawm.org/songs/317561).
I hope you have the chance to visit Cologne or Germany again someday!
Holy Hannah, @johnstaples , that's the longest comment I've ever seen on FAWM hahaha!!! Thank you! I really love how that came out and first time connecting with @karlsburg25 . It was a great honor and added his wonderful magic and talent to it to make it the creation it truly is! Thank you for your kind comments. You rock and I still have a few more songs of yours to look over, but I have one more to whip up to say I hit 14 to truly earn my trophy for the year and then I'll start catching up on comments!! Looks like you had a FAAAAB-TABULOUS FAWM 2025! It's because it's our 13th year! 13 is a lucky number! I swear! (Well you know I swear, but you know what I mean 😜 ) Enjoy the last day of FAWM and I will be back to get those listens in!! 😄
Thanks John! Yeah, I hope there's so.e laughter.
John, I don't know what to say except thanks. Your words mean a lot to me.
Hey, John! Thanks so much for the accolades you heaped on "Turn up the Kindness". You're right - Liz is a lyric powerhouse and I always feel lucky when I can team up with her wordsmithing to create a song.
John! How did I miss responding to your wonderful comments on Love Isn't Any Fun, my collab with @gwynjones! I love what you said, and I agree with you that Gwyn really nailed it with melody and delivery, and somehow managed to present exactly the feeling I had in mind when I wrote the lyrics. I admire your music, and so it meant even more that you appreciated this song of ours. Thanks!
Thank you for the positive comments on my track - Empty Bottles. Much appreciated, John.
Thank you Brother John! I'm so glad you enjoyed made of love. That's all we have at this moment in time. Man...gotta keep doing what we do best to keep the lights on. Much love.
Thank you for your comments on Flatfooted, John! It's nice to find your songs too.
Thanks for your generous comments on Love and Tolerance! I appreciate them, John.
:) Thank you SO much, John!!
Thanks for visiting "It's a Crazy World". I truly wish that were was no reason to write the piece, but, here we are, knee deep in the undrained swamp.
Okay, John, I wrote a song "for the monster currently squatting in The Oval Office" and his henchmen. I hope it's suitably vitriolic for you.
Thank you John. Appreciated. I know the FAWMgods are appalled at the rift and the direction the whole death-to-ai-users is taking. Point is,a s you realise, it's something that has to be left to individuals to decide where or what the "line" might be, there's no way we can be the AI/creativity police.
Hi John, so nice to see and hear you again! Thanks so much for listening and commenting on "Return to You," means so much coming from you!
Hi Again! I just now saw your message about my Instagram too! Thanks so much for checking that out!! And yes, I LOVE the Metallica version of turn the page! It's just such a good song right?! My kids had a snow delay today so It's been too chaotic here to listen to music yet, but I can't wait to give all your songs a listen! Thanks so much for all the positive feedback :-)!
Hi John! Just wanted to thank you so much for your super kind words about my song! I truly appreciate you listening! XO
Just heard Today and really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to listening through your other offerings this month too.
Hi, John. I just realized I never thanked you for your incredibly generous comments about my song for the cheese skirmish. You are most kind and I appreciate the encouragement.
thank you for listening and commenting. Coming from a talented musi like you it's a great compliment.
Thanks John, I had decided not to post on FAWM any AI stuff this year, too early, too negative, maybe next year. I understand the reticence from musicians here, I really do, but it's a no brainer for lyricists (if you are any good that is) makes a big difference. If you want to listen to one of my songs, I can do that.
Hey John! As promised, the link to the protest song of my friend ;-) Let me know what you think 🙂 https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1B2eSkNUVg/?mibextid=wwXIfr
Thanks so much for the feedback on my song. Yeah, this is a drug-free trip lol. However, to each their own! :)
Thanks so much for your comments John! It's pure awesome to hear that you enjoyed the music, looking forward to listening to more of yours! 🥳
Hey John - Thanks for the Jethro Tull education. My dad will be ever so proud when I tell him someone compared my vocal technique to Ian Anderson!!
Howdy John!! I love ya brother... THanks so much for the much too kind review of my song!! Please know how much that means to me... On a sadder note, Ithink I'm already done with FAWM this year.... 2nd day of fawm I post a song and got 3 listens... that's not enough to counter the dozens and dozens of comments I've given. it's just not equitable and not worth my time and effort. I would give anything if fawmers would listen to my music, but after 10 years, I think the message from the FAWM community is clear... GET OUT.... and so I am....
Hi! I am looking forward to that protest song! A friend of mine made a song about the beast. Can I send you the link?
Staying clear of the fights/forums. Me too! Good to see you back here.
Hey John, thanks. Not all experiments work, even with a healthy attempt. Happy FAWM!
Well, your comment on "Hey, It's From Me" was one that kind of made my day yesterday. Thanks for listening and for the encouraging words. I got a little frustrated later when I realized that I'd already written that melody in my bridge, in another song, but I've since revised and am glad at least I noticed! ;)
Thank you for the sweet comment on Stingray Creek! But don't grow up, it's not worth it. I'm almost all out of time but I can't believe I haven't dropped by. Chasing bluegrass now and witha buta luck the site won't chop me off...
