Hail, heroes! It’s day one 1, we did it! Please forgive my voice on the recording, as I have been down with a horrible cough since Monday and barely have a voice (what a cruel and unusual way to start FAWM, I know!).

I had grand ambitions of composing and finishing a song in Logic, but the brain fog of being sick wouldn’t let me get past autobiographical lyrics and simple strumming. So, to kick us off, I have a gentle little vignette of mine & my partner’s trip to San Diego last week for his mom’s 60th birthday.

Lyrics

West of Maricopa, cruise control at 65 Just a couple lovers bound for the oceanside Driving through the desert Past the white sand of the dunes We retrace our steps, it feels like deja vu

When we used to make our livin’ Livin’ on the road That’s a bygone era We run on different code, but

Some things stay the same, No matter how much we may change You’re still my guiding light I’d follow you to any horizon Eyes on the road I’ll go wherever you go

At our destination, pulling into the hotel Old Town San Diego, full of flavors, sights, and smells We meet up with your parents, Mariachi serenade I am starry-eyed, that doesn’t take a lot these days

I sink into the glow of everything that’s going right How lucky we are to be here We made it out of last year

Some things stay the same, No matter how much we may change You’re still my guiding light I’d follow you to any horizon Hand in your hand I’m satisfied wherever we land

In our hotel room Too long after midnight We’re both losing sleep Thinking hard about our families When the morning comes It finds us still awake I’ll take my time as we make our way

Some things stay the same, No matter how much we may change You’re still my guiding light I’d follow you to any horizon Eyes on the road I’ll go wherever you go

It sounds somehow nostalgic but also bright. I like it a lot. The vocal si beautiful as ever. The rhyme "hotel" and "smell" caught my ears because I think it conveys the idea of the remembrance very easily without using a lot of words.

Love this! The lyrics are terrific - I specially like the lines about Old Town San Diego - and the melody and acoustic rock vibe are irresistible. Your voice sounds great. Really enjoyed listening!

That chorus is catchy as hell! This is a really lovely start to FAWM. I hope you feel better soon!

This felt really genuine. I very easily believed they were autobiographical lyrics. You sound great for not being at your best. The guitar rhythm has a very travel-y sort of vibe - this is a cool road trip song. Touching but upbeat. 😄

this is so beautiful! I love how the sound of the guitar matches so well with your voice

aw this is such an awesome song for what I'm sure was a wonderful memory. You captured that memory in music, and that is amazing!

What a beautiful sweet song! Your voice is just fine -- perfect, in fact, for the song! Hope you're feeling better soon, and keep these coming!! I love songs about real things that happen! This one made me happy:)

This is really sing-alongy...

This carried me away from grey cold britain, to somewhere hot sun beats on whitesand. Lovely melody too

I really like this! I think this might be the first time I'm starting FAWM not sick... currently touching wood... but this is great, sickness or not! I think the simplicity of production really suits this piece as well. Great storytelling. Nice!
