Dancing in the Graveyard

Liner Notes

Well now if @crisp1 who wrote the words cannot tell me what they are about then I guess we leave it as an exercise for the listener.

A jolly little tune to get your boney feet tapping

As ever with Doug's words they have an inherent musicality which makes them very easy to use.

Female backing vocals are me run through https://audimee.com/ and they sound pretty awesome

Doug: Very cool mix of sounds here but I think the bass line is the key. Plus, you make a great female backup vocalist. Thanks @daveyboy103!

Lyrics

In the hush of faded whispers When all the shapes turn into shifters Shadows fall on cold reflections Stirring up old recollections

Echoes in the pines and cedars Motives buried with the sleepers Through the darkness, moonlight’s flicker Offers up its icy liquor

You too often felt a bone break Your soul grieved in endless heartache Pain and gloom, your only friends Their end brings your revenge

Echoes in the pines and cedars Motives buried with the sleepers Through the darkness, moonlight’s flicker Offers up its icy liquor

You’re dancing you’re dancing In the graveyard right now (2)

You’re dancing you’re dancing In the graveyard right now (2)

okay this is groovy and the bassline is immediately captivating

A happy, bouncy, funky and dark song. I love the contradiction. Well done, both.

That intro was so good! The entire piece, but that in particular was amazing! I love the chorus too, they go with the instrumentals really well! Very sharp and bright (in the musicality sense... lol) lyrics.

Ooof that bass line 👌 you've nailed the 80s aesthetic here. Love the panned guitars, and those AI BVs work really well. Top wordsmithing from Doug - 'Motives buried with the sleepers' is excellent. Toe-tapping, dark, skeletal fun, great collab!

Lovely minor changes on the pre-choruses, and great singable chorus. Awesome bass and guitar funkiness.

A little Joe Dart bass intro..cool. nice grove and the lyrics seem to fit given the upbeat tempo

Genuine whiplash listening to this song. First we have this utterly groovy 80s disco pop which is so damn catchy it's untrue. Hello my Sunday earworm! Then you read the lyrics and it's like Doug is channeling a new series of True Detective - they're hauntingly beautiful and really quite sad. But this is the incredible thing about collaboration isn't it. You get something wonderfully unique!

My ears love the bass line! The vocals match the lyric perfectly—danse macabre for 2025🎉

So cheery yet so depressing lol. Really great arrangement!

Yes, the lyrics are a bit cryptic but I appreciate that they lend themselves to the listener's own interpretation. At least that's the impression I get. They work within the context of Dave's incredible track. That bass coming through with so much energy; it's crazy. Back to the lyrics for a moment. A standout line that leaves me thinking: "Offers up its icy liquor". I very much dig this line.

I'm gonna check out that audimee site. Not sure what to expect, but I am curious. You made it work so well on this track. Brilliance from the both of you. This indeed slaps and waxes mad cool vibes.

@mannon

That smooth bass line is awesome! This song is a vibe for sure! Honestly I'm also not worried by what it all means, the chorus is pretty memorable and sometimes, that's all a song really needs. I think you both did a great job! ( ˘▾˘)

im not even worrying about what it all means. the sound of the words is what matters, and you sing them the way they should sound. also, the images are strong enough to be remembered. this should have them singing along, at least to the chorus.
