I decided to give myself the challenge of writing three honky tonk songs. Here's one about a downy woodpecker's unrequited love for his sweetheart.
Lyrics
Chorus: Geraldine, Geraldine I keep on knocking, but I’m stuck here in between Geraldine, Geraldine Sitting here waiting, waiting to be seen
I hear your drummin’ It’s got me hummin’ The sweetest song I know The sweetest little song that I know
Well it can’t be for nothin’ When I saw you blushin’ I almost hit the floor Then you turned and flew right out the door
[Chorus]
It’s sink or swim Go out on a limb The sun is going down Thinkin’ you and I could hit the town
Oh we’d dance to the shuffle Get our feathers ruffled We’d surely have a ball But I’m just banging my head against the wall
[Chorus]

Don't wait to be seen, go talk to her!
Great song that perfectly captures the classic country western sound. This would be right at home on Live at Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash. Love that shuffling drum.
EDIT: I just rode the bus to work and was humming this all the way. It catchy and lasting!
I love it! What a great idea to give (honky tonk) voice to the bird. I'm in awe of the concept and it's so nicely executed.
Very smooth and very cool, nails honky tonk perfectly. And the voice!! Wow
You're making classics that never existed! This feels like something I'd hear at family get-togethers and we'd jam out to it. Love the irreverence and taking a snapshot of the small things. I was singing along by the end, so that means you did a GREAT job!
You hit honky tonk right on the head! :)
