On solid ground

Liner Notes

The second song of the album this FAWM is about a stable personality who often looks quite relaxed and down-to-earth. So I had to use a solid 4/4 rhythm with a clear beat. The flute, clarinet, bassoon and some of the percussion symbolise her love for nature and being outside. Also, she has a #kalimba, which helped form the idea for this song's intermezzos which also symbolize how she never fears making her own choices and deviating from the norm.

The song is also in #lydian mode (raised 4th tone). #modal-challenge

#Tit4Tat Playful. I learned a lot about it musically through reading. Some of the sounds remind me of the awesome Legend of Zelda soundtrack in the desert world of Gerudo for Skyward Sword. Mystical. Creative work this FAWM!

I absolutely LOVE when a song begins in a way where you're not exactly sure what the underlying rhythm is, then it just sort of 'emerges', they way it does in this track between :30 - :40.

I have to ask, what is your technique for achieving that? I would think that you develop the bulk of the track with the rhythm, then work backwards, stripping away elements until the underlying rhythm is obscured? That becomes the intro, then you add elements back in at your discretion? That's my best guess. I really enjoyed this composition and I'm quite curious about your workflow, because I really dig your style and I have a feeling our approaches to composition are quite different. Looking forward to checking out more of your stuff!

Also, props for creating a FAWM '25 album cover for your tracks on SoundCloud! #tit4tat

Lydian for the win. This sounds great. It has a lot of movement, dynamics that keep it evolving throughout. A nice arrangement, too.

So clever! I'm really enjoying all these songs. The kalimba intro, the drums... there's legit skill in the sound design, arrangement and production — this would be a great video game music (Zelda, perhaps?)!

How utterly refreshing and enchanting! I clicked for #lyrian and #kalimba because they're both off the beaten path and had to listen several times because it's so cool!

This perfectly matches the personality you describe - capable and playful with both straightforward and unusual elements, a pure heart, and a sense of adventure. It very much feels like video game music where she's tromping through a meadow getting her footing in this new world. At the same time, I also hear the classical influence.

This feels so fresh and vibrant! I love the falling theme that you start with (the "kalimba" tune?). The more song-like sections have a strong groove, but still manage to do surprising things.

Reminds me very heavily of PS2 era adventure rpg games like FFX or kingdom hearts like beach/small town shop music 💚 very nice production and bonus points for giving me some nostalgia 🎵🎶

Love all of this. Your production is top notch and gives all the instruments their own distinct space. Sounds wonderful and thanks for sharing it with us.
