The Emotional Baggage of Childhood Trauma Rides Again

by @headfirstonly Mod

Liner Notes

Some #oddTimeSignature #instrumental fun in 7/8 and 3/4. It's a bit #proggy, and a bit #funky and rather #soundtrack adjacent and about all I can manage for today.

Oh, I love this jazzy funk. Reminds me of the jazz-rock fusion music of the 1980's. Lots of changing up in instrumentation to keep this interesting throughout. A very enjoyable listen. It had me tapping my foot to the beat. Love that 7/8 time. A thoroughly enjoyable listen.

I especially like the section starting around 47 seconds in... but it's all good! Very groovy!

I always enjoy odd time signatures even though I'm not very good at deciphering them. That mix of funky and proggy is really interesting! Unique vibes! The very refined build-up keeps me captivated, kind of holding to the bass line as I would hold to a lifeline while diving into the depths of my subconscious. What a trip!

Very nice Chris, loving the technical structural aspects of it, its funkiness and feel. Like Zappa meets Gong maybe :)

Great twists and turns, the beat keeps guessing what will happen next, guitar stands out well when it takes over!

Your liner notes describe it perfectly--I can just picture the quick cuts of preview scenes for a thriller type TV series or something. Chock full of delicious funkprog moments anchored by that fabulous bass. You're a genius, Chris.

I get a bit of a 80’s Anime soundtrack from this, there’s a lot of cool sounds and it’s a interesting musical journey throughout

Nicely put together!

I agree with others who note the spy/detective vibe of the soundtrack aspect. I watched some old Peter Gunn episodes not long ago and some of that sound has stayed with me.

the coolest of cools, honestly. you should teach how to be cool like this! 💚

Funky and nostalgic. Reminds me of something (no, I can’t quite place it at the moment) that I used to listen to in the 90’s. (I didn’t listen to a lot of Western music at that time, mostly Japanese bands). I very interesting journey in less than four minutes. It’s those guitars and flutes that really take me back. And that occasional piano is very solidifying for me.

[avatar]

A bit proggy! But if course that’s a plus not a minus here! That signature does give it a slight edgy yet uncomfortable feel! Works well, guitars around 1.50 are yum!

I really enjoyed this. I don't find it easy to create odd time signature grooves, so I admire those who can. You've come up with a few here, I think. You've aptly described this as proggy and funky, and I agree with both. I got some 1970s cop-show vibes at some points, but you managed to not let the prog overwhelm the funk or vice versa. Everything melds together into a cohesive piece. And a nice long title that makes you think. Well done!

ough, it's so dramatic and a little off-kilter but that bass grooooooves

@esc4p3

So much has gone in to this, many different parts but held together as @sph said, by the bass line. Love the drums particularly at the end where you go all 'Animal'.

@sph

Nice sections, the bass holds everything together. I like very much how you used only a few ingredients/instruments on this (at least compared to other tunes of you)

very cool. love the spy intrigue vibe! this song has great style.

Ah this does nice things to my brain. I'm a sucker for spooky flutes and unusual time signatures, good stuff!

Coincidentally, I'm reading a book by Gabor Mate. You might like his writing. Maybe you already know about him. I'm liking the odd time sigs throwing me a little off balance. Nice flute break. Sounds Mellotron-y. Gorgeous production here, as per your usual awesome standard. Great guitar bit there wah-ing around. I am a big fan of active bass lines, so this appeals to me very much. Yeah, this is so nice, despite the scary title.

I'm not a trauma vampire, but the title attracted me! It sounds like you were trapped or lost inside a spooky fairground as a child and something felt similar recently? My brother got lost at Alton Towers once. We found him in the lost children room. It sounds like you managed to escape eventually too!

Love the feel and the groove. LCD Soundsystem vibe throughout to my ears...
