hen party

Liner Notes
i'm blowing out the cobwebs by catching up on collabs my overloaded 2024 self wasn't able to follow through on during last summer's 5090 challenge.
🚨 silly alert 🚨
i got the following #PostcardChallenge postcard from simon aka @lyricslinger last summer, but never got around writing anything. until now
in case you don't know, a "hen party" in the british isles is what we'd call a "bachelorette party" here in the USA. so i decided to imagine the scene both literally and figuratively (mixing in bits of simon's imagery from the message)?
started with the #Trap and #Disco beats on my #Omnichord on a #Cassette #4Track and went from there. vox through a zoom V3 vocal processor for that hard #Autotune sound. overdubbed live #Drums on the chorus and... #Theremin solo in the #MajorMinor bridge? why not!?
Lyrics
fourteen hens in a row in front of a farmhouse, sweet and low rain barrels set by the window take a tranquil trail or a winding road to the mountains, where they hum, and the air is still you almost forgot the hen on the hill
it’s a hen party underneath the evening sky the ladies strut their stuff as the clouds roll by a postcard from the past a fever dream in a frame a picture of nowhere and everywhere all the same
oh the bride is laughing and the other birds too with feathers flapping like confetti in the gravel, too a rickety chair for a throne, a farmyard disco with the whitewash stucco, this flock is ready to go
it’s a hen party underneath the evening sky the ladies strut their stuff as the clouds roll by a postcard from the past a fever dream in a frame a picture perfect party and we’re so glad you came
it’s rural, it’s quiet, but it's all so strange,
where the landscape bends and the seasons change
the seasons change
fourteen hens in a row in front of a farmhouse, sweet and low rain barrels set by the window take a tranquil trail or a winding road

Vocals are super cool in this one! For some reason every time you sing "farm" I hear "FAWM", and the fact that are 14 hens make this a meta song. 😆 Really cool, and again, I'm always impressed by your ominchord 4-track workflow.
I have never been to an Irish hen party. This song makes me feel like I have missed out on something important. The heavy autotune on this is perfect. I'm picking up strong hints of TMBG's "Man, It's So Loud In Here" but that crazy synth solo under the bridge is absolutely its own thing, and completely off the chain. Epic stuff!
Another one that my kids will love, especially the littlest one who shares a name with you, who loves birds and autotuned Parry Gripp songs 😀. So catchy and such a vibe!
Omnilicious! So fun and, at times, genuinely funky. The way you deliver "whitewash stucco" has some genuine hip-hop bite, so color me happily bewildered. Well done!
well this mightily fine, silly in the right ways
What a great groove! Love the "hen " party metaphor that seems more lyrically literal. I particularly like how you did the vocal. Cute postcard!
very fun one. I love the vocal effect and the disco beat. super cool and bouncy!
I adore that bridge!
This is fabulous. The thought occurs as well that Hen Party and Purple Hay complement each other quite well! Could be part of a whole album of farm-inspired songs 😀
Well, that sure was a hen party. What a very interesting exploration. Really enjoyed that keep having fun :-)
the bouncy chords by the almost-accordion sounding keys COMPLETELY match chicken vibes imo. this is super cute. the fact that sometimes i hear the word farm as fawm is a total bonus! Lol
Oh this is delightful! I love the effected, stylized vocals over the trap beat, and the contrast of the kind of lyrical craft I'd expect from an Americana-folkie, except they're about a disco too. And somehow the theremin solo is perfectly fitting - piercing as a squawk, synthetic as disco music ....
