Liner Notes
Fort Elmfield: Trying something a little heavier and more dissonant than usual.
The first version of this was uploaded on February 8th without vocals, and then the incredibly powerful @emplate stepped up and not only wrote a full set of lyrics, but also recorded two dubs that I've now managed to mix in, and the track has become complete - honestly wasn't expecting to do anything like this for FAWM this year, but I think it's turned out really well!
To give context to some of the earlier comments below before the new version was uploaded, I had originally asked someone to supply some Mikael Åkerfeldt-style growls!
Emplate: Though Mikael Åkerfeldt I am not (especially at his peak he had one of the most brutal sounds, and he's also a good lyricist, I think), I hope I did the track justice. With the vocals I didn't even try to emulate an Opeth sound but rather went with what comes out of me naturally, but I guess with lyrics I tried to lean that way a tiny bit. Always fun to do these kind of collabs, especially to a beast of a song such as this one!

Lyrics
Turning towards north To face the south Stripped of cover Laid bare Under the sky's eye
A distance unbreakable Like a severed hand Reaching towards emptiness Solitude of the blind
A voyage cut short Ambitions sunk In polar eclipse

Those riffs are all classics, the vocals stellar. Production is top-notch, too. So, so good.
damn, this could be opeth, or maybe mastodon played at 16bpm!!
sick riffs, staggering from the sea-sick to the demented. great solo as well.
This f#+king rocks! The riff with the slidings is a killer!
I knew from the first five seconds that I'd love this! Filling Åkerfeldt's boots isn't a simple feat, but the vocals work great here.
Damn, I LOVE the awkward, slippery riff that this opens with! I'm getting Ihsahn vibes off this too... I can't do his style of vocals, but could really imagine them over this.
Very heavy riffs! It's kind of like death/doom version of the old Opeth. As in, very much to my liking. I could maybe try some growling on top of this, if you'd be okay with that. You can check out my vocal style on my profile's songs.
Gojira called and they want you to substitute them for a gig or ten. Awesome stuff, can't growl though
I looooove Opeth and you definitely get the style of their heavier and older songs. The guitar run and growls yay! The production is ace
