Spider

Liner Notes

cackling drifts in This song made me laugh so hard. I had so much fun! We're supposed to be having fun during FAWM, right? After the last song, which was heavy, I needed something lighthearted. Spiders are one of 'my' creatures. I've had a string of spiders living under our broken doorbell for multiple summers now, and I always say hello. I wanted to write a song for these wonderful creatures, so feared and misunderstood (well, sometimes). I'm playing a bit with where the fear of them comes from here, as well as honoring their capabilities and genius. Nods to both Charlotte and Anansi #fuc #personwithukulele #singersongwriter #fun #silly #acousticonetake

Lyrics

Settled in your shadows Weaving deadly beauty snares Misunderstood and hated By the flailing unaware

There’s often something to admit Below the chilling shriek Spider’s not a monster Even though she makes you EEK!

Magic in the might of your spinneret Magic in the fright that your name begets Spider, spider, spider, spider, Spider

Messenger of story Saving lives and laying traps Mysterious symbol Of the fears we can’t forget

There’s often something to admit Below the chilling shriek Spider’s not a monster Even though she makes you EEK!

Magic in the might of your spinneret Magic in the fright that your name begets Spider, spider, spider, spider, Spider

Live under my doorbell, Be welcome, Weaving One Just hide when the friends come over Who can’t bear to see you run

Magic in the might of your spinneret Magic in the fright that your name begets Spider, spider, spider, spider, Spider!

Lovely chord changes and melody. Music does a great job of conveying the message and emotion even without the lyrics. Both ominous and beautiful. I enjoyed this.

@janeg

Phil sometimes hears me talking to, and even naming, the bathroom spiders. So this was really fun! Centipedes make me EEK.

Very creative unique melody. I'm wondering if you write in your head, away from the uke, and then add it later? For me that's the only way I come up with something so Melodic on a strummy instrument. (Though very well played strumness it is)

Haha, this is very fun! I admit to being one of the "flailing unaware" - although I appreciate spiders in theory, and have even knit stuffed spiders, when I encounter live ones I do freak out a little bit. This is a great tribute to them!
