Some Folks Die (long before they're dead)
by @jmadison
Liner Notes
I recorded this with a totally different feel, that I thought would be great, but decided it was kind of bland. I hope this one is a little better.
Lyrics
Some folks die - long before they dead Some folks die - long before they dead They not taking their last breath, They just givin’ up instead Some folks die - long before they dead
Some eyes cry - till they out of tears Some eyes cry - till they out of tears They saw hurts and guilts and pain They don’t want to see again Some eyes cry - till they out of tears
Some hearts need - hope to mend them up Some hearts need - hope to mend them up They been broke and torn in two The worst way you ever knew Some hearts need - hope to mend them up
Some folks need - they need to feel some love Some folks need - they need to feel some love They need love from you and me So they can feel as alive as can be Some folks need - they need to feel some love
Some folks die - long before they dead Some folks die - long before they dead They not taking their last breath, They just givin’ up instead Some folks die - long before they dead

I listened to this one walking around outside today, and I was struck by the way that first verse starts out feeling so heavy. Dismissive and deprecating. Don’t bother with those folks. They’re no good. But then there’s this message that no one is beyond the redemption of love. Made me think I should put down my phone and smile at people on the subway. Then the repeat of the first verse felt like an invitation to approach those cast-offs from the first verse.
I like the message and the sound. Good use of the hook, and the repetition works well.
I dig the vibe you have going here! Excellent guitar work all around!
Some folks die long before they dead is truth and and a big mood (as the kids say)
Well done!
This song just popped up for me, and it's exactly what I needed to hear. Those lyrics area awesome!! Great guitar work too, I especially like the solos.
I love a good shuffle! I also love these classic blues lyric forms. The repetition allows to be easily hooky. Great feel.
