30 Pieces Of Silver
by @b3nut
Liner Notes
Dedicated to our so-called "vice president" JuDas Vancecariot for his betrayal of our European allies this past week in Munich. All that goodwill...gone. We're a pariah now. I'm not okay with this...I'm not okay right now, period. Goddammit!!!
In honor of our already-betrayed Canadian friends I tried for an 80's Bruce Cockburn vibe sortakinda...he's one of my biggest heroes as far as songwriters go.

Lyrics
Critical juncture Where histories converge The fates of nations Where new orders may emerge
Countless lives at stake The choices you make Can shift the course of time
Of vital importance your sense of deportment Conspicuous by its absence shocks the world
Arrogant gestures Absence of concern A smarmy know-it-all No capacity to learn
Throw it all away In a fateful day Decades of effort evaporate in a moment
You strut and you preen and proceed to demean Alliances forged in fierce fires at great cost
Was thirty pieces of silver your gain For betrayal of all we once held so dear? Can you use your thirty pieces of silver To pay the devil on your way to hell?
The looks of horror On the faces of our friends Bewildered disbelief What horror doth portend
We used to help light the way Now just a castaway A fading empire collapsing into dust Overnight
I’m sure your bosses are proud - your fans cheer so loud But they, like you, are too ignorant to see What you’ve really done
Was thirty pieces of silver your gain For betrayal of all we once held so dear? Can you use your thirty pieces of silver To pay the devil on your way to hell?

So well written and put together, and a passionate performance. I definitely hear the 80s Bruce Cockburn homage, too. Great song!
That is so good, Todd, amazing groove, bass, sound choices, mix! "Bewildered disbelief" is my MO since November 5 and said speech felt like a gut punch to us (non-nazi) Europeans. The reference to the thirty pieces of silver is a great reference talking about these self-proclaimed Christians.
Oh some cool sounds, funky monkey! Yep your lot versus the world it seems.
"Can you use your 30 pieces of Silver on your way to hell?" You absolutely can't take anything with you when you die, but when in a position to help, you can do your best to make life better for all. Sad, sad times. This is a brilliant piece.
this is a head (phone) trip. your songs, particularly this one, remind me of that short period of time when bluesy rock bands added horn sections and. in place of an egotistical lead singer, one of the musicians sang often-politicized lyrics. i like the way your anger bubbles up at the ending.
Oh man - that bass! Fun-ky! And the interplay between the bass and guitar,..and then the synth! Sweet! The chorus is on point both in terms of lyrics and melody. I am glad to be able to listen to this after today and the recent past. Ugh. I think FAWM might have to go extra long this year to be able to survive it all. Great song.
This bass line is soooo groovy
