Need My Lord

Liner Notes
I've had precious little time this FAWM due to many other obligations. This is a very true story that I threw together tonight based on my experience as I woke up this morning, and made it through the day.
Lyrics
When I wake up I need my Lord When I wake up I need my Lord When I wake up I begin to pray Lord give me strength that I need today Cause when I wake up I need my Lord [Repeat]
When I go to sleep I need my Lord When I goin’ to sleep I need my Lord When I try to put my head to bed And I got to many thoughts in my head When I try to sleep I need my Lord
When I go out the house I need my Lord When I go out the house I need my Lord When I go and try to drive somewhere, Or when I step out the door to walk myself there When I go out the house I need my Lord
When I talk to someone I need my Lord When I talk to anyone I need my Lord When I try to say somethin’ to them I want something that would come from him When I talk to someone I need my Lord
When I go to work I need my Lord When I’m goin to my job, I need my Lord When I’m trying to what I can To bring home the bacon and the ham When I go to work I need my Lord
When I quiet down I need my Lord When I quiet myself down I need my Lord Try to quiet my bones And I sit myself right down alone When I quiet down I need my Lord
When I wake up I need my Lord When I wake up I need my Lord When I wake up I begin to pray Give me strength that I need today Cause when I wake up I need my Lord

I dig this. The slide guitar and mandolin combo work really well! Definitely has a great old time gospel feel!
Love it!
This song got me moving this morning. I was dancing around the kitchen as I cleaned up the breakfast dishes. It felt like we were composing the words together. It took me back to how I felt gospel songs in my body and my heart as a kid. Also the ways that praying is like improvising the words for a song and the impulses to pray and write and sing all come from the same place for me. Music is such a vast and joyful container for joy and sorrow and everything between.
J, I'm always inspired by your honest creativity. There's an urgency in the music that gives the lyric a sense of desperation. Like "I REALLY need my Lord"! It's felt throughout the whole song. Thank you for inviting me to join this! I've been too busy to FAWM this year and was happy to find a ZONG on your page after checking in. Miss you friend! -Adam
One of the classic blues motifs is this reliance on the Lord. And this is really well done in that style.
