I was thinking about the techniques @djtjb mentioned on this song: https://write.fawm.org/songs/312334 ...and I got the idea to write a song about getting distracted by a constant stream of different stimuli, and to try using gating/ducking to mix the song in a way where only one part gets heard at any moment, as a representation of that "parallax" feeling. For example, even the vocals are ducking when the drums are playing.

Lyrics

Flickering moments of clarity in the camera flash scenery rushing fast Seeing the forest through the trees I can’t concentrate I dissociate

I react to stimuli First in first out Winking one eye at a time My animal brain is being retrained into parallax focus

They flood the zone to overload driving to distraction survival reaction Grind the cogs to dissonance You blink you miss no more to-do list

I react to stimuli One id, one out One idea at a time My animal brain can’t stay in lane with this parallax focus

The cons tant beep of alert fatigue is a magic eye hiding the pattern It’s all a zoetrope diorama Hiding the background in zebra camouflage

I react to stimuli One in, one out Queueing as they arrive my animal brain takes the bait with this parallax focus I react to stimuli My filters down I grasp as they go by My animal brain just can’t sustain this parallax focus

@owl

This is so cool, I love the concept/lyrics and the catchy poppiness of it despite the heavy ducking and glitching.

This is very cool. Nice glitchy sounds and the pop melody is terrific. You crammed a lot of aural goodness into a short song. Well done.

Oooh, I love the production choices here! Super discomforting, much fun, familiar and alien. And a strong synthpop melody on top of it. Very cool tune!
