Liner Notes

#60's & 70's. #pop #rock #needs collab #multiple collabs welcome

This is a collab (or multi-collab) experiment. Maybe it will work; maybe it will fall flat. I love the music of the 60's and 70's, and I imagined this record store down an alley where music lovers and traveling musicians stop by to listen and reminisce. There are undoubtedly posters covering every wall. The closest I can come to describing the musical treatment I have in mind is: "Something that reflects the music that transformed us and defined our lives back then."

If this lyric speaks to you, I would LOVE to hear your musical interpretation. I'm labeling it "multi-collabs" because there could be many wonderful ways to take us back to those days. If you're comfortable with that understanding, please go for it.

Lyrics

V1 Tucked in the wall down an alley way In a part of town gone to seed The sign went missing years ago You can still smell a hint of weed

V2 The store takes you back to that time in the past When the music reached into your soul The songs that hit you right in the heart Joni Mitchell to Rock ‘n Roll

Ch Welcome to Vintage Vinyl The records you never outgrew They’re alive at Vintage Vinyl The songs that feel most like you Your music’s all here at Vintage Vinyl The first time you heard it, you knew

V3 Back in the day, Milo ran the place He was friends with Roberta and Glen My girl and I hung out there a lot It was cool when a star dropped in

V4 Some of the albums cost thousands today Makes me wish I’d saved all of mine Or bought some extras and stashed them away I’d be rich after all this time

Ch Welcome to Vintage Vinyl The records you never outgrew They’re alive at Vintage Vinyl The songs that feel most like you Your music’s all here at Vintage Vinyl The first time you heard it, you knew

Br Don’t get me wrong I love modern music The new songs I hear all around me But the ones that stay with me Are the ones from the 60’s From that hole in the wall down an alley

Ch Welcome to Vintage Vinyl The records you never outgrew They’re alive at Vintage Vinyl The songs that feel most like you Your music’s all here at Vintage Vinyl The first time you heard it, you knew

I’m a vinyl collector and a big fan of 60’s 70’s music it’s just about all I listen to! I own over 300 albums on vinyl it’s my favorite thing in the world to collect and shop for. This song resonates with me. I see some comments from people who have already taken on the challenge of collabing with you on this and I can’t wait to hear what they’ve come up with. Verse 2 especially made me happy with that Joni Mitchell shout out! She’s a big inspiration of mine. And verse 4 gave me a good chuckle, because I know how expensive some albums are! Great writing. Awesome chorus. This whole song takes you right into the action of this vintage vinyl shop!

Hi there - your encouragement inspired me - I sent you an email :)

Oh so good - what a classic lyric! Beautiful meter and it just sings off the page. I’m thinking about it, but it is awfully late in FAWM. Hmmmm

I relate so well. I still have and play my collection and still buy records too. I loaned or listened to a few and I certainly wish I’d bought a bunch back in the day. 🎶🎵🎶🎵

I love this song so much! I still have vintage vinyl, cassettes and CD's. It's about holding on the music we love in a time it spoke most to us. Great job!

Wow you totally nailed it! My daughter has a vinyl collection - so proud I taught my daughter something she'll enjoy for her whole life - and she's got great taste! I love that you just took me down memory lane - I miss hitting the record stores with my daughter - it was our 'thing' and now they are hard to find. 'The records you never outgrew' - oh my goodness, this is just awesome!!!!

This brings back some memories, every payday in the 70's I would be straight down to the record store checking out the new arrivals. Wish I had saved them too.
Hope it gets picked up for a collar. 😎

Very, very cool stuff, Ms Patty. I feel the tug to take a crack at it, but I'm away from "studio" and it would have to be a crude 1+1 phone recording on a borrowed guitar. I'd much rather do a full production with a '60s radio type arrangement, but maybe I can get around to something like that post-FAWM.

Great lyrics, Patty! I'd be glad to do a version but my takes are generally one voice, one guitar. So, I'll hold off and see if some of the folks who do more elaborate arrangements jump in. If not, I'll circle back and give it a shot. Regardless, nice work on this!
