I Hope, One Day
Skirmish: my days with ___ (@fairplay)Liner Notes
Yeah, it's another song about the state of our world today. I wanted my FAWM to be an escape from all that, but it isn't working, so I guess I should write the songs my muse sends me instead of no songs. Maybe a couple more of these will help me to get into a better space for writing more hopeful stuff.
If I'd used the skirmish prompt as a title prompt, it would have been something like My Days With The Opposition.
Lyrics
I Hope, One Day Deirdre M. Murphy
Am Dm I hope, one day, I’ll look back on these years Am Em Calling out the Greedy Old Party as what they are and were Am Dm For the politics they’ve played their whole careers Am Dm Am For their personal profit, personal fame, and for power
D Am I hope one day, I’ll look back G With relief, not fear E With pride, not regret Am D With the knowledge that this year Am E Am Was a turning point, a challenge met
I hope one day I’ll look back on these years At the horrors they tried to do in our country’s halls And mostly failed, because we drowned out their cheers We organized so many meetings, marches, and daily calls
I hope one day, I’ll look back With relief, not tears With pride, not regret With knowledge that this year Was a turning point, a challenge met
I hope one day, I’ll look back on these years And see their crimes exposed and their efforts failed And that one day I can set aside today’s anger and tears Because their autocratic ambitions got them jailed
I hope one day, I’ll look back With relief, not tears With pride, not regret With knowledge that this year Was a turning point, a challenge met Because we vowed to never bow to fear
I hope one day I’ll look back From a better world.

Well said. Well sung. Well played.
I've posted a lot of political songs over the years, and my notes from January 31st said "no more than two political songs this year". Failed that miserably, but I suspect a lot of us are unable to avoid that head-space with what's going on. Yes, let's hope that one day we all look back, and 2025 becomes the turning point. Lovely vocals and that stripped down guitar serves them well.
The drawn-out vocal notes and the slow tempo work so well together. I can tell this is an important topic to you.
Nice work on this!
I like the rhetorical device of stating intuitive knowledge and phrasing it as hope. Almost a speech. Nice.
...well, it is in the head and it wants out - so why not put it in a song - i don't who i quote with this but ' hope we can one day look back and laugh' - very strong personal performance...
I am right there with you. Great opener, "Greedy Old Party" indeed! I really hope that this is a turning point and we will look back and be proud of ourselves. The juxtaposition of the hopeful lyrics with the minor melody/chords gives the song such a tentative, precarious feel... Pretty accurate! Great write! #tit4tat
