Liner Notes
A song inspired by the great artist Daniel Johnston. I recorded this in #OneTake using a #4-track recorder (my Tascam 424mkII), playing a Squier Esquire, the Korg KR Mini drum machine, and vocals through a TC Helicon Voicelive 2.
Lyrics
You shouldn't listen to the voices in your head Listen to your friends, listen to me instead I told you once, I told you twice, I'll say again If you listen to the voices it will be the end of you my friend
You shouldn't listen to the voices in your head Don't listen to them, listen to me instead I told you once, I told you twice, I'll tell once more If you listen to the voices it will be the end of you my friend
You're out in the rain
You're falling again
While catching the train
You feel the pain on your scraped knees
You're out and about You're skinning a trout You said you're a scout But now I'm in doubt you ever prayed
You think you're alone That there are ghosts in your home You lost your old phone Throw a bone to your old friend
You're out in the rain You're skinning a trout You lost your old phone But you never lost your way
But
You shouldn't listen to the voices in your head Listen to your friends, listen to me instead I told you once, I told you twice, I'll say again If you listen to the voices it will be the end of you my friend

Omg. This is so great and one the nose with Daniel Johnston with your own perspective. Really well done.
Like the time change ups in here and guitar riffage, has a solid hook to it!
Love the guitar and drums....punky for sure. The Clash-ish. "You shouldn't listen to the voices in your head"...we all do to some extent . well dome
I like the frenzy of trying to fit all the words in starting with "You're out in the rain". Also some of the absurd lyrics (skinning a trout). Eric and I saw Daniel Johnston here in DC when he was touring alongside a documentary about his life. He played a short set after the film. Interesting for sure.
The high notes, nicely a bit mad. Goes with the voices in the head lyrics. Really fun.
This reminds me of gathering around the keg in some sticky basement as various alt- and punk rockers burned the place down. Love it! So catchy and rocking. You do such a good job of mixing up the rhythm of the vocals, so the lyrics and melody cascade out in interesting and varied ways. I have some vague recollections of listening to Daniel Johnston back in the day. I really like all those "you're out..." parts
Punky grunge vibe in this with the drum machine and overdriven guitar. What if the voices in my head are hilarious...? Nice falsetto in this. Impressive one take.
The whole thing is very well put-together, and so bouncy and hooky! Really great work.
wow! the bouncy rhythm of that first line, hooked straight away! very syd barrett too. i love the johnston vocal acrobatics. This is so catchy and fun. great lyrics! brilliant stuff! really enjoyable listen!
Nice write! The descriptive stanzas draw a chilling picture of cognitive dissociation, especially as it unfolds to those nearby.
The up-tempo setting makes a good contrast with the more serious sense of the lyric.
FWIW, I have a writer friend who quotes some-famous-writer: "if the voices in your head are talking to you, you might be crazy; if they are talking to each other, you are probably a writer."
The results you always get from minimal track usage is so cool.
Cool story (and cool guitar). This was fun and interesting, and well written. Thank you.
Had to have a listen as it was inspired by DJ. Good advice in the chorus. I could totally see Daniel singing something along these lines. The falsetto voice draws attention to the lyrics.
Amazing production for a 4 track! Great vocal melody I love the high notes. Getting serious TMBG vibes - which is awesome - but definitely your thing. Crazy beautiful lyric! Top track liked a lot.
I had never heard of Daniel Johnston before listening to your song. I looked him up on Wikipedia. Wow, I've never heard you like this, it's so punk! Great guitar playing and production here. Amazing write as well.
