Back on it Monday

Liner Notes

A song about my complicated relationship with food and exercise.

There's a really nice t-shirt I bought from an immigration charity about 8 years ago that I would have fit into about a month before I bought it, and haven't fit in it since.

#indiepop #rock

Lyrics

they either burn up or latch on I used to count them in and count them out should i dabble in confusion and anger a charity t-shirt that’s fucking its hanger

[excuses, excuses] I need them i’m tired, and i’m too dry endorphins, I’d rather die [excuses, excuses] I bleed for them i’m busy, it’s a black sky endorphins, I’d rather die

I used to find it so easy run to a run to a run to a run clown trousers to remind me now i just wait for the sun

excuses, excuses I need them i’m tired, and i’m too dry endorphins, I’d rather die excuses, excuses I bleed for them i’m busy, it’s a black sky endorphins, I’d rather die

feeling ok back on it Monday

is this is something I should be feeling something I should be fixing something that i can brush aside is this is something I should be feeling something I should be fixing something that i can just let slide

Loved the mix from the opening notes, that sunny guitar and melody along with the bass line is killer. I so feel the complicated relationship with food and exercise.

It's been welcoming to hear more guitars in your tunes this year and this one gives me that comforting jangle that I love. But you're always so good at using guitars to serve the song rather than doing it for the sake of it. All the bits make this such a happy song, those lead synths are infectious and the groove is positively strut-worthy. Another highlight of your 2025 album (they're all highlights).

@rosiebans suggested this one and here I am. This song sounds like it's about me and cookies lol. This is fantastic though. It's just super catchy and I love the break about feeling ok back on it Monday. Awesome stuff!

Omg you're brilliant! I absolutely adore you're writing, vibe, brilliant vocals and this song is a fantastic piece of indie pop. I'm bopping about my living room listening to this. Super cool bridge too, really musical, and that outro section just... YAS MATE, YE SMASHED IT!

That chorus is a banger. The bubbly synths against that bass sound great. Lovely stuff.

This is ace - a proper catchy chorus! Feels like a very band-y song this one. Nice little breakdown section. Some lovely harmonies and cool guitar accents too. Enjoyed it!

@hanley

Pure pop sensibility in fine form here. The blend of arp and at least three guitar parts is super tight and bouncy! So much ear candy and that chorus is as hooky as an aroused coat hanger.

Very well produced, like the vibe and energy! would def go to this show, you got a band? :)

Bizarrely, and since you and I are getting nostalgic, given your musical family tree, this reminds me a bit of Mothership.

Christ on a bike (or in running shoes) - is there anything you can't do? The sheer pop perfection of this has me with a big stupid grin on my face. That funky intro/break riff with the synth arp in the back is killer and incredibly fun.

Meant to listen to this yesterday in tribute to your "Sunday Night" comment but I was in meetings all day and forgot. I'm back on it Tuesday, though. I thought about going for a run on... I guess it was Sunday. But then I didn't get dressed until about 2pm instead. Anyway, good song - definitely at the full-on POP end of your sonic spectrum and appropriately packed with hooks! At this tempo you might have even broken a sweat? It all counts, get it on Strava.

“Endorphins, I’d rather die.” Ha! Right there with you. 😆 Those stabby little synth lines layered over the repetitive electric guitar, oh so good. And the end is downright poppy, makes me want to dance! Always enjoy your songs and this is no exception!

Creative, wonderful, funny way to sing about the subject of losing weight and staying in shape. I love it all - your vocals, how your delivery makes singing quickly sound so easy. And that whacky synth solo instrument. But the bridge and outro are my favorites. Lucky for you - you sound like a rock star no matter what you're singing 'bout.

Excellent production values and love the drum sound you’ve got. Catchy indie pop vibes for sure and some nice harmonies going on with the vocals.

I can definitely relate to lyrics too, it took so much will power for me to go the gym this evening! 😆

@beacon

I relate to the subject matter and this has a great beat. Funky bass line and I feel like I'm hearing a song from my childhood. You really nailed the vibe.

@oddbod

Not sure I’ve heard you done guitary like this before- well with some synth stuff chucked in too, natch. Has some sort of 80s pop vibe though I’ve no idea where I’m getting that from. Nice layering. Catchy chorus. A little bit Alex Turner? What’s that looney tunes style comic sound effect opening about then? 😄

dude, this is amazing!! great catchy song, sweet vocal delivery, amazing production and more frills than auntie's bloomers. how do you even do this?!!?

This song really speaks to me! I was just thinking I need to go for a brisk walk after work today. I love all the layers you have created. There's a video game type vibe as well which I'm sure is deliberate!

[avatar]

I love the chords on the chorus, you've created a really fun mix here! The harmonies on the second verse are great too. I love this song topic, I think it's something that almost everyone has grappled with in some capacity but there's not too many songs out there that explore this! I love the outro too, the synths sound great!

That Bombay Bicycle Club style bass is ridiculously good. The chorus feels almost Beatle-y even though it’s way more advanced harmonically than that suggests. This is so incredibly pop I can hardly believe it. Everything has a (really appropriate) propulsion to it. Fine, I’ll lace up my running shoes.
