It's Not Too Late

Liner Notes
@beto says: I did not have in my bingo card for this FAWM playing live a song that changes from 13/8 (3+3+3+4) to 8/8 (3+3+2). Well, here it is.
@motorcitymusicman says:
I have a mini FAWM tradition that I write one song every year based on Greek/Roman mythology. This year the song was about Odysseus, from the perspective of late in his life, as reflected in the poem "Ulysses" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. (Fun fact: this is the poem from which Bruce Springsteen got the title "Hungry Heart.") I tried to make the lyrics not so much reflect the details of his life but more generally the yearning he was feeling. Great to collab with Beto!

Lyrics
[Verse One] I live my life from day to day And every day’s the same The lack of progress is disgusting There’s nothing left for me to say Is this what I became? There’s nothing worse than feeling that you’re rusting
[Pre-chorus] I cannot rest from travel I’ll drink life to the lees Come and climb aboard with me We’ll sail the open seas because
[Chorus] It’s not too late to seek another world The bruises from our lives can all be healed We’ll sail beyond the sunset And all will be revealed It’s not too late to undertake adventure To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield
[Verse Two] How dull it is to live a pause It’s not the life for me I’m always driven by a hungry heart The world is nothing like it was I think I need to flee To run away and make another start
[repeat pre-chorus]
[repeat chorus]
[instrumental bridge]
[repeat chorus]

The uke music struck me as both light and soaring, and as angry as a bee knocking on the window looking for the way out. I read the lyrics and couldn't decide wether Ulysses is on a pause in his Odysseus, with Naussica or Circea or if he is at the end of it with Penelope and regret the time of his travel... (I made something out the mythology too this fawm ! the song's called "La règle (the rule)" and is inspired by Astrea, still our symbol for Justice today.)
Cool! The odd meter doesn't sound odd at all. It's a great piece to listen to!
That 13/8 riff is superb, I was inspired to steal it. Kudos for playing that live so flawlessly. And great how the syllables in the lyrics go so well with them.
I like the pattern which does have remembrances of ancient Greek music that I've heard, going well with the storyline. Particularly like the choruses.
beto's melodies sail along with the wind as the lyrics pass through random travels with an ecstatic drive.
I really like how the music personified the lyrics: the feeling of monotony that needed to change. I enjoyed listening!
Nice sound from those nylons. Good song, man!
I think the mixed meter adds to the power of the song. It may not have been on your bingo card, but it sounds natural in the beautiful picking and the stressed syllables. I'm pretty sure I have heard Balkan dance songs in this meter. Beautiful chord choices too. And I like the encouraging, bold, allusive lyrics.. great collaboration!
This is mysterious, surely helped by the chord choices and time signature. Definitely a small hint of system of a down influence. I like your light delivery of the vocals, it feels effortless and conversational
