Gone!

Liner Notes

My inspiration for this song was a comment that I made on @blindkiwi 's song 'We all went together', where I said that sometimes I think the best thing for the planet would be for the human race to go extinct. My apologies to Greta Thunberg...

I seem to be writing lots of protest songs lately? I'm not sure if that's because I'm a grumpy old man or if the state of the world is so bad that it's giving me lots to protest about...

For those interested in the gear -

This was recorded on a Zoom R8 using the internal effects, processing and microphones. The bass is a Squire Contemporary Active Jazz Bass, the guitar is an Epiphone SG. Drums are played real time on an Alesis Percussion Pad and supplemented with real acoustic Guiro, Vibra-Slap, Agogo and Cuica. There are four tracks of vocals with various degrees of reverb, chorus and EQ - the cough at the end was a genuine response to trying to make my voice extra gravelly for the backing vocals - but I liked it so left it in.

Lyrics

Someone better tell Greta, She's got it all wrong, wrong, wrong. This world would be a better place, With the people all just gone.

No raging wild fires, Or plastic in the seas, No fake news or debauchery, And no one chopping down the trees. No big inflated egos No more me, me, me, me, me, me , me, No killing anybody, And saying it's democracy. An end to burning oil, And poisoning all the bees. No more assassinations. Of anyone who disagrees...

If we were... Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, Everybody, gone, gone, gone gone, gone, gone, gone. Everybody, gone, gone, gone gone, gone, gone, gone. Everybody, gone, gone, gone gone, gone, gone, gone!

Someone better tell Greta, She's got it all wrong, wrong, wrong. This world would be a better place, With the people all just gone.

No displacing anybody, For a beach resort, No shooting any lions, Just for the freaking 'sport'! No scandal in the churches, With the little children getting hurt. An end to all the gutter press, That get their kicks from digging the dirt. No bleaching any coral, The whales just swimming free. No more pious, preachy, protest songs, Hey, don't have a go at me!

If we were... Gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, Everybody, gone, gone, gone gone, gone, gone, gone. Everybody, gone, gone, gone gone, gone, gone, gone. Everybody, gone, gone, gone gone, gone, gone, gone!

Yes. This sometimes does feel like the only solution. Quite bleak overview but then one does tend to remember all the good human kind is capable off. I like the rage and anger in the delivery of the vocals and lyrics. Great rocking protest song. Sometimes you have to hyperbole to wake folks up.

Amazing use of instruments and voices, and a compelling idea. Awesomely sharp lyrics as well. This one absolutely rocks with purpose!

Good rocky song. Tough message. Who's going to listen to your songs if we're all gone, gone, gone? Loved the song though. I dont usually like comparisons to big artists but it reminds me of Pete Townsend's writing. Thanks!

"No more pious, preachy protest songs": amen to that! I think there were a few more verses for this; we're not great, are we?

But we are good at scraping those guiro (if that's the correct guiro playing verb) and playing jaunty guitar. And the live drumming has come on rather well this term. I'm not a drummer, so this may not count for much, but it sounds good.

I liked that "me, me, me" etc. -- neatly emphasising the self-obsessed focus.

I half agree if you see humanity as a whole ... But unfortunately in the generation of my daughters I see so many wonderful, hopeful people. It's just the assholes who are a problem. THE problem. Anyway, this song rocks, I like the groove and the guitars.

Dark and gloomy ... Completely get where you're coming from. Love the gruffness and the rumbling rage. Head-bopping rhythm too.

I love the vibe! Great tune with so many truths! Such a simple and awesome chorus! Bravo!

When "Avengers Infinity War The Musical" comes out, this will be the perfect feature song for Thanos.

Thanks for participating in my 'ignored instrument' challenge -nice use of some very unusual instruments! Killer electric guitar sound! Sometimes it does seem your idea is right about the world vs humans.

Humans have for sure created chaos in the world. Great song
