Lyrics

Master of None

On the outskirts of everything standing alone. Heart and mind on my sleeve. Soul etched in stone. Cannot think of anything more I could possibly do. As I watch it collapse at my feet I think of you.

Maybe there was a chance at the start after it had begun. Now all hope is fleeting and I stand Master of none.

And I know deep down you agree. There’s no place in this world for a man like me.

Movers and shakers and pushers and takers they’re thick as the underbrush holding us back. Our creeping corrosion and victimization by all of the wolves in the pack.

Maybe there was a chance at the start after it had begun. Now all hope is fleeting and I stand Master of none.

What a collaboration here! Extremely relatable lyrics, rugged vocals, with guitar, bass, and drums that add just the right punch.

This 4-track rocks. Is this a 4-track digital? (not hearing tape hiss). All the separate parts did what they needed to and it sounded like you were all together jamming this one out. The guitar break around 1:40 or so was awesome.

I like where this wound up. When it came to me, the bass and guitar were already there and you could just tell it was going to be good. The key was to not screw up the excellent work they'd done. And I have to also applaud @jlampson . For a couple of technical reasons I wound up recording the vocals in my home office on a mic that I don't use much anymore and that doesn't have a pop shield on it, so the plosives on the initial vocal were pretty evident. He did a great job elminating those and working the vocals in (plus the drums he added) to what @nkrefting and @rinwolf had done and I think the end result is pretty satisfying. Great work all.

This came together amazingly - so proud of all my co-collaborators!!!

Those rugged vocals work well over the jagged guitar chords! Very cool that the bass was first on this. It's driving and I love how this came together. Those parallel guitar lines at the end are super cool! This is very punk, and I love a waltz!

Great job! Like the Chekhov-Shakesperean undertones which probably were instigated by the nostalgic guitar melodies

@rinwolf no worries. Part of the challenge is that people leave their comfort zones. Guitarists play synths and vocalists have to adjust to a different genre.

Wow what a great collab! I did not expect to hear hard rock with a bluesy touch. The lyrics are relatable. Some situations are just not solvable. Also big kudos to start a song with bass. Guess it's quite hard to harmonise.

This is insane! I barely recognized my stem under this arrangement. Stellar job, everyone. Vocals and guitar are superb. Love the laid back drumming holding everything together.

@jlampson I didn't realize you were playing drums last. I've had to do that on collabs in the past, and it can be a challenge. Sorry about that, I should've asked what everyone was playing before dropping bass out of nowhere. Wonderful performance and mixing!
