Ride the Susquehanna with Me

#bluesy #Pennsylvania #biab I wrote out these chords, then figured if I played them enough I'd come up with some bluesy lyrics. Then put them into Band in a Box and got a better sound. I started scatting along and use a "Dr John" style voice. Since I can't realistically sing about life in Louisiana, I decided to do something about a river I know, the Susquehanna. Learned some interesting facts about it in the process. Shout out to some small towns: Cooperstown, Muncy, Nanticoke and Shamokin. I hope you enjoy it

Ride the Susquehanna with Me © Mark Greenberg February 27, 2025
Follow the North Branch up the Susquehanna You’ll find where baseball and the river were born (Talking Cooperstown) And the West Branch runs through upper Pennsylvania Past the farms and mountains where I was formed (Muncy, PA)
Longest river in the Eastern States Empties into the Chesapeake Bay It’ll show you what a river should be Ride the Susquehanna with me
You can sing about your Suwanee River But y’all agree it’s just a sliver The Susquehanna is a mile wide It’s Central Pennsylvania’s pride
You may be a dude from Nanticoke Or just another Shamokin dope But you know what a river should be Ride the Susquehanna with me

I love the sounds of these names, especially Susquehanna. The vocal has a lot of personality, and I wouldn't have known this was Band in a Box, feels organic!
They say "Write what you know," and you've clearly done that! Some rivers don't get the songs they deserve.
Nice bluesy feel here. I like how you worked all the specific locations in.
I just looked on a map and that river takes a crazy trip to reach the Chesapeake Bay. Seriously, "what a river should be"! You are right about the Suwanee - Susquehanna is almost twice as long. Plus no alligators.
