Don’t Know Much About Kentucky (Postcard Challenge

by @alicelimoges

Liner Notes

Thanks to @buckshotgeorge76 for sending me a postcard listing some facts about a Kentucky. Turned it into this lost love song. I’m on vacation and only had my uke and a phone, but think this quick write came out okay! #postcardchallenge

Lyrics

Don’t know much about Kentucky Guess you’re living there now Didn’t know much about Kentucky Til you sent a postcard to my house

Are you riding into sunsets Drinking whiskey on the range Don’t know much about Kentucky But now that you’re there my life has changed

Chorus: You’ve found I place where I could never find you But I search for your green eyes in the stars I haven’t yet had a chance to find them But stargazing helps me feel you’re not too far I knew less about where you’d run off to Before I got your postcard Don’t know much about Kentucky All I know is Kentuckys where you are

Verse 2: I don’t know much bout how to reach you Looks like your numbers not the same Don’t know much about Kentucky Were you running towards or running away

I wish you would give me one more chance I wish you would ask me to dance You’ve gone off to chase some cowboy romance Went off somewhere I could never land

Chorus: You’ve found I place where I could never find you But I search for your green eyes in the stars I haven’t yet had a chance to find them But stargazing helps me feel you’re not too far I knew less about where you’d run off to Before I got your postcard Don’t know much about Kentucky All I know is Kentuckys where you are

clever angle on the challenge. so many good lines. don't know much about Kentucky is such a great hook and the last line of chorus pays it off beautifully. A perfect arrangement/performance style for the song... kinda daydream wondering idly simplicity. nice one!

The economical way those first two lines set up the whole story is so well done. The way you leave so many questions about what's transpired unanswered is haunting; the lyrics take hold, and don't let go. Wonderful.

There's something really poignant about getting a post card from someone you were once close to. It's like a window into a mystery. This is lovely. There are so many great melodic turns and great images. Nice performance, too!

Really lovely lyric and pleasant melody line make this song come together rather well indeed!

The second poignant song I know of with the focus on Kentucky. Yours is love lost. The other I know of is love found, but missed. Both are nice tunes.

Such a poignant song! Your voice and the lyrics are just wonderful, and uke sounds so unlikely sad. Love the story in the song, and some of those lines are just perfection (that last verse is my favorite!). Wonderful!

Lots of sadness in this song, and lots of room for us to imagine the story behind the situation described.
