A high school friend pointed out a story on the Front Page above the Fold story in the New York Times with the headline “The SS United States is Going Down For Good” I felt like it needed to be a song. I want to lean it towards the way that the News Cycle and humans list toward the sensational dark side of any story. Ran out of time before I got it there.

Lyrics

The SS United States is going down for good They’re making it an artificial reef And I know what you’re thinking All the parallels you’ll draw As you shake your head in disbelief The SS United States is going down for good It’s in the New York Times on the Front Page But I’m guessing if that warship had any other name It would not have got quite so much play The SS United States is going down for good It’s right there in the headline in the Times

Sadly true on so many levels. I can stil remember when the USA was the beacon of change for the West and its freedom for the individual philosophy was a major threat to the Totalitarians... Now look at it... Sigh...

A very clever use of this event in your lyrics! And quite apropos for the times we are living in! I think you are off to an excellent start with this and I look forward to hopefully seeing it completed, maybe this summer? Well done, Nancy!

@gb9

Wonderful bit of story telling, the name of the warship really does give it so much play, pretty good metaphor. Nicely done...👏

Our society is watching and constantly reminded of our distress. Our negativity bias is getting a workout for sure and we are collectively trying to maintain our agency, even our sense of agency.

In a contrarian twist, I was thinking about how the sea creatures might be waiting in anticipation for the new reef, its shelter and protection for their lives. Cycle of life, destruction into recycling and new life.FWIW

too bad you didnt have time to finish it. it's a good title

I saw this story and a documentary about the ship and the person that had intended to renovate it, and obviously failed. Such a shame. Great little lyric to tell the story - I did indeed "shake my head in disbelief" 🙁

@tjeff

A great metaphor picturing the good ol USA as a warship, and sinking is so sadly true. I was hearing this as a spoken word piece beyond some satirically patriotic music. Honestly though, I'm almost too distraught to even consider staying on the ship or jumping off or exactly what to do.

It's time someone called mutiny on that ship! 🕶

I’m shaking my head…

I like the timeliness of this Nancy. It flows well. Great job!
