Liner Notes
Dan says: Nathan and I used to play a lot of music together in our younger years... he keeps telling me that he "retired' from writing music a decade ago. Silly thoughts. I gave him a microphone when I saw him at Christmas time and told him that he didn't have any excuses left. :) On the evening of February 27th... he sent me no less than FIVE intertwining banjo parts (insert 5 banjo jokes here) and SIX vocals. He asked if I could add some bass, percussion, ambient noises and mixing mixing mixing. So, here we go!
Nathan Schleicher - Words, melody, all the banjos, all the vocals Dan Vaillancourt - Bass, percussion, ebow, production, mixing
Lyrics
ALL OUR TIME
Verse 1: The room, how lonely it feels, our song has already played The fire - no matter how warm - A moment that burns away.
Chorus 2x Life in the mourning. Life in the wonder. All our time is vapor - Make you run, or make you braver.
Verse 2: The snow will grey in the Spring A breath on the window fades And time keeps moving along All life depends on decay
Chorus 2x Life in the mourning. Life in the wonder. All our time is vapor - Make you run, or make you braver.
Bridge: Forces of nature ___ change in belief Words on the water _ murmured relief We don’t choose what stays We don’t choose what stays
Chorus 2x Life in the mourning. Life in the wonder. All our time is vapor - Make you run, or make you braver.
ENDING: All our time is vapor Could make you run, or make you braver.

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing how the collab came together, it'd be a good song with just Nathan's vocals and banjo, but, Dan, your production touches really bring this to larger-than-life. The chorus is a singalong. I hope y'all find some more magic together in the future, too!
This is such a fresh sound. Reminds me a bit of Mumford & Sons when they burst onto the scene. Brilliant lyrics--not a word out of place. And the production is stellar!
Yay banjos! (and clapping!) The sound of this is is just glorious. And the meaning, too; love that the opening already signals that this song should be heard on two levels, and the chorus is beautiful and powerful. I love "Make you run, or make you braver" (and how the vapor ties into the opening line of V2).
Sounds massive gents. Has that big alt-folk singalong vibe that is just instantly crowd-pleasing. Love the big reverberated claps, all those tasty banjo parts, and the vocal layers are glorious. I also love ‘all our time is vapour’ - brilliant line!
Guess you never retire from music. I love how you implemented the banjo. Cool idea with the stomping and clapping. I loved the vocals
The chorus has such an impact. It acknowledges a big truth. A very big truth. Always impressive to discover how a song comes together from a collaboration. The mix, the mix is great, Dan 💯 ! I find this tune to be not only lyrically challenging to my own sensibilities about life, but from an arrangement position, I've got A LOT to learn. Maybe I'll get it, maybe not. I guess it's just time for me to be brave. Nice work, gents!
Holy carp! This is pretty amazing. When is the duo album coming out? I love all the banjos dancing but there is plenty of space for all of that to happen. Great to hear Nathan again!
let's hope nathan never stops making music. he has a wonderful voice, sense of melody, and ive never heard a banjo sound so good. the bass and percussion rounds out he sound brilliantly.lyrics are an elegant treatment of the themes life, time, and decay.
Love the "all our time is vapor" "make you braver" rhyme here. Nice work on the whole percussive vibe of this one.
The last two lines of the chorus is pure gold. And wow, what a production you guys put together!
I just love some of the chord changes here! And the lyrics, maybe with a little inspiration from Ecclesiastes? So glad this talented musician is creating again! No more retirements! Enjoyed the listen 💚
Gorgeous harmonies with yourself @nathanschleicher. Great production also. I love the interweaving of all the instruments and the dynamic shifts in the song. And that hand clap is a great percussive element. Great to see you both collaborating again!
Aw, great story. Moral - buy all my friends mics for their birthdays? OH, I love that key switch or instrumental interlude, whatever you want to call it, mysterious and magical and uplifting. . . the chorus is just incredible, gives me chills. Strong vocal performance and very cool how you double it up so subtly. Welcome back, Nathan, please stay a while. And pat on the pack, Dan! Thank you for putting this out in the world.
Love a collaborative reunion! This is way cool, vibes give me a little bit of my morning jacket and a bit of iron and wine and a little bit of tool to be honest… a great swirl of vibes to end a great month of FAWM! Well done!!!
Well, this is pretty much the perfect song to be listening to in the lobby of a Hilton Garden Inn in front of a gas fireplace waiting for Chinese takeout to be delivered, while the final hours of FAWM vaporize. Feels like an invitation to lean in to mortality and sing anyway. So glad you guys got the duo back together. Happy rest of the year. See you in 10.5 months.
