Turn the Page
Liner Notes
#folk #americana Kind of my default folk thing on this one, chords and strum pattern and such. Been chipping away at it periodically throughout the month. I like a lot of these couplets, which is where it started and developed, but not particularly the last 2 lines before the repeat at the end, so I'll have to think about that a little bit, and gee whiz it's too long. I know what to do about that. :) Thanks for checking in!
Lyrics
Turn the paper, turn the page Turn it upside down, it stays the same Independence, afterthought What seemed important at the time
Send a picture, save a tree Pictures back and forth from you to me We always chat, we never talk None of the flowers, all of the stalk
B section: Not every thorn has a rose And it’s ok not to know… what comes next Every bit of silver doesn’t shine Sometimes the clouds go by unlined
Give me paper, give me ink Dots and lines still help me… with my thinking Black, it might not fade to gray ‘f we’re lucky, it goes indigo one day… someday
Draw myself in pencil, let dry up the pen, Begin again I’m softer inside than the out A mess of cedar shavings, stains and doubt
When watercolors blur the lines No one ever seems to mind… least of all the sky, the clouds, the landscape Some deep waters just get colder Deeper down you try to go… dive in
C section: Ooo… Who goes first, I wait for you Ooo… Winter came so soon, I wait for you
Spin the snow globe upside down See the people hurry through their town Losing hats and losing gloves But finding one another, finding love
Not every song has a tune Some we chase around the room….. and never catch Reaching out with open hand Nothing asked, and no demands… find a connection

Beautifully introspective, John, and achingly sincere. So many wonderful lines, hard to find a favorite one, but maybe this one "Losing hats and losing gloves But finding one another, finding love" - it's such a nice thought, maybe because it's still winter (I hear more snow this week), or maybe because we are in the midst of such turmoil and uncertainty. There's just such a sense of optimistic melancholy to it all. Anyway, it has touched my heart.
Lovely and very well done. The lyrics are wonderful.
Beautiful. What a way to close out FAWM! Always brilliant, man.
Not sure if the harmonics are happy accidents from the strum pattern or intentional, but they were fun surprises.
Lots of good lines here, but I think my favorite is: We always chat, we never talk None of the flowers, all of the stalk
