We’re all Just People
Skirmish: Turn up the Kindness (@dudachris)Liner Notes
I have a friend whose thing is kindness, and I attended a meeting earlier today where people pointed out that it's important to see people as people first. I think that's what led to this lyric.
EDIT: Finally, there's a demo. It's a lot rougher than I hoped, but at least you can hear it. I was trying to do it with cittern and guitar, but ran into technical difficulties with the cittern, and it's late now, so maybe in some later recording I'll manage that. But not today.
Also, I'm shortening the title to "Just People".
Lyrics
Just People Deirdre M Murphy
D G D Some of us come together to sing and to play D G A Sitting in a circle ‘til night turns to day D G D Sharing daydreams, chords and silly wordplay D G A And harmonies as sweet as cherry parfait
G D Others come together to meet on Monday G A To make calls and knock doors, we want to have a say D G D To shape our shared world toward a better way D G A There is so much to do after our workday
D G D You might be disabled, or you might be gay D G A Or straight, cis, and well-off, it’s all ok D G D For you offer kindness; respect you convey D G A Although we are different, we’re siblings today
G D We meet in the park while our dogs or kids play G A We’re humans and parents together this way D G D Or we meet in a restaurant over a buffet D G A Just people who are wishing, “you have a good day”
D G D And you might love sports or build model railway D G A And she might love gardening or a drink on payday D G D And he might love painting or a fine fish fillet D G A But we are just people who might be friends someday
G D Yes we are just people who might be friends someday G A Just people who are wishing, “you have a good day” D G D Yes we are just people who might be friends someday G D Just people who are wishing, “you have a good day”

Thanks for letting me know you'd added music - lovely guitar sound and impassioned singing. If you're a performer, this is one you should be performing!

I got a tune done. The demo is rough, but I don't think I'll have time before the site closes to make a better one.
This is awesome! Such a vivid and well-rhymed look at connection. Would love to hear your music for this one.
Love the perspective and the sense of community, belonging, warmth, and friendship you create with this lovely lyric. It feels so gentle and unassuming.
Hope of friendship might be what we need today. It can be quite a leap of faith though, given the systemic violence at play in our societies. And I totally get people in need of protecting themselves and not wanting to be exposed to verbal attacks at the pretext of their identity. But hey, everybody getting due respect is an ideal, but it a good one.
So I love your topic and especially the last line. "But we are just people who might be friends someday " quite sums it up doesn't it ? #tit4tat
First time I've ever seen a lyric where all the rhymes are the same (and clever that it's "A" as in a rhyme scheme of AAAA AAAA ... but maybe that's just the poet nerd in me talking!) It's a beautiful sentiment, and impressive that you were able to come up with this in a skirmish! Wouldn't it be lovely if we could all be each others' friends someday... #tit4tat
So many ways to rhyme -ay! Love the sentiment and the last verse in particular is great.
Mmm, definitely more kindness and empathy needed, and a good message here.
Good words and good sentiment. Siblings indeed!. Cheers
So lovely and the message is so needed in today’s society.
An important message in a society where hostility has been increasingly normalized.
Lovely! The sentiments are very needed these days. This would make a fun group singalong at any event. Favorite line, "Although we are different, we’re siblings today." Yes, more of that please!
