Wednesday, the earth still turning

Liner Notes
@theodamus: Itโs so exciting to have my mum @carolga here FAWMing for the first time! She posted these lyrics early on, I loved them - a beautiful take on how we live in the future, with a little bit of hope thrown in. I immediately heard how it could sound - and then it has taken me right up until the wire to get it together. Hereโs my last one for the year, thrilled it could be this!
What @carolga originally wrote:
This skirmish ran during our New Zealand Wednesday night, so I found it on our Thursday when it was still Wednesday for many. Had to write about that. It's taken all day to get to, another 12 hours later here's my Wednesday song on our Thursday evening. We are probably all in the same day right now ! โค๏ธ
And what I'm adding now ๐ To @theodamus - thank you for being so enthusiastic that I join FAWM ! Doing this along with you and @jongoldie, it's been a shared family thing, so great to do together, very exciting, a very different challenge for me, and very rewarding - I've loved the experience and opportunity.. I'm honoured to have one of my fledgling songs picked up by you, to hear it sung and become real is amazing . Thank you so muรงh for giving your time and talent to this. You have given it such depth and I love your vocals, love your voice. Thank you for giving me my song. ๐ And yes. sharing that thrill - posted at 5 minutes to the deadline - crazily good - it gave me my win! and we reached the finish line together ๐ love you! and all your awesome songs on FAWM this year - great work ๐
Lyrics
Wednesday That was yesterday here And still today for some Are we out of sync, behind or ahead Or just glad tomorrow will come
Times, sometimes, these times are churning All that's changing, all that's burning Ahead or behind, this Wednesday, yearning Thankful for the earth still turning and glad that tomorrow will come
Thursday That's today right here And still tomorrow for some Are we in your future Or you in our past Or just glad tomorrow will come
Times, sometimes, these times are churning All that's changing, all that's burning Ahead or behind, this Wednesday, yearning, Thankful for the earth still turning Relieved that tomorrow will come
Thankful for the earth still turning and glad that tomorrow will come

I really like this chord progression, and the melody kind of feels experimental in a Beatle-y sort of way. You've made the words sound more ominous than they did when I read them by themselves! It's very cool. I love this collab. So cool that your family did FAWM together! I got my boyfriend and one of my brothers to join this year but they didn't get super involved. Anyway, bravo!
What a voice, what a trip - very apt for the timezone consciousness of FAWM and the politically and environmentally turbulent times.
Damn! This is so hauntingly weird! The craziest and most fitting melody. I don't know how you do it. This feels like a very full production! This song deserves a music video that would feel like a whole movie.. great lyrics by "mum". so glad that you're my friend! Talk soon.
Oh, my goodness, the liner notes and the story of the song are almost as compelling as the song itself. I like this musing on timezones and other scales of timing. I like the somberness of this hopeful song. Hope you have more collaborations to listen to!
Here we are! A little darker than I pictured (not a bad thing), almost a "People Are Strange" energy. The world is strange. A very relatable take on these lyrics.
good lyric us down this part of the world are used to this what time is it there, nicely expanded wider. compelling guitar which adds a little darker shade!
Oh I just commented on the lyrics version of this before I saw this. Love the vocals here.
Dark and brooding with the down strums and almost spoken word melody. The lyrics are clever and fun to think about. Great little track. #tit4tat
I like how the actual, physical, time zone/date line thing becomes so existential and symbolic in this song. (and the last chorus lines about gratitude for the earth turning/tomorrow). The dark music takes these musings in a serious -- even doubting -- direction (that fits well with the "all that's changing, all that's burning." Nice job!
There is a real Cabaret feel about this one. I like the repeated lines involving "glad that tomorrow will come" - that gives it a really hopeful feel. The family that writes songs together, stays together!! ๐ Well done!
Great job interpreting these most excellent lyrics about a hopeful future!! I really enjoyed the vocals and especially the harmonies! Nice consistent driving guitar rhythm. I love that it's a family song!! I grew up in a musical family too and I know how special that is!! Excellent work folks!! #tit4tat
Feeling quite proud at the moment! Been very cool seeing us all writing songs, and performing. Thanks Leo. Nice to be here with you this year. Cheers Great vocal to great lyrics. Way to go guys ๐
What a cool song! I love getting to collab with @robynsdad so Iโm sure getting to collab with your mom was just a treat. Love the dark sound to this, kind of retro. Love it!
What a gorgeous way to close out fawm. Look at what you've created! A perfect way to end a cohesive, thoughtful, big(!) album. So much learning, so many new skills, so many fawmlings here because of you. Thank you for sharing this space with us so lovely things like this song can exist.
These are beautiful lyrics and you frame them hauntingly with that gorgeous dark sound. Iโm glad you were able to collaborate with your Mom! Itโs a good one.
I love it when families join together to write songs! Hoping my own kids want to do that someday ๐
I liked the guitar and vocals here, very nice!
Lovely, thoughtful lyrics ... love the voice, too, and the faint harmonies. Well played. Congratulations on FAWM to you and your mom!
Fantastic piece! Lyrics are beautifully crafted given the Wednesday / Thursday situation. Your guitar weaves jazzily between your voice. Way to get this piece in!
This is really lovely! I love the sentiment of the beautifully written poetic lyrics that capture change with a hopeful feel - and really love the melody as delivered by the vocals. The phrasing and chords give it a haunting and hopeful feel.
