Unfolding

Liner Notes

I tried to use this as the start of a Collab but it didn't work out. While watching the minutes and seconds tick down on the fawm home screen, I had an epiphany that maybe this one counts too, and that I should just upload it. I apologize for the silence on the beginning and would not recommend cranking your volume, lol. Like I said, it was intended to be a collab, so I expected the vocal from zero and started singing after, idk, eight blocks or so? It's dry but has Nectar thrown on it (light eq, compression, and tuning) so this one is weird, but again.. I think it counts.

Lyrics

Unfolding I don't want to blink Both darkness and beauty I don't want to miss a thing As it unravels I know it's why I'm here I get to witness And to feel It all

You are lucky To be alive And it is whatever you make it You are Lucky To be here Watching everything As it's unfolding

Oh, I listened to this but I guess I didn’t get around to responding. It feels like it might have come out of your collaboration song Anyone Can Do Anything. It’s another invocation to feel and do and watch and be.

Bravo! This weirdly makes for a brilliant little coda piece to an album. Lovely vocal, obvs. And the sense of gratitude for being here, through both darkness and light, feels about right for The Times. Definitely counts too!

I agree with the people saying this works beautifully as an acapella number. And yes, it would also sound nice as part of a larger arrangement. Lovely melody and thoughtful lyrics. Nice!

Beautiful! Totally counts. This is great as is, but could also still be part of a larger/longer arrangement. Really nice.

Congrats on being the last song posted to my watchlist, if not the actual last song posted for FAWM. 😂

The a capella performance suits the lyric well -- and the little bit of processing on your voice makes it feel both contemporary and timeless.

I agree with Klyma that opening and closing with "unfolding" works really well, in a fleshed out arrangement I could imagine this repeating on itself (or at least hinting at that on a fade out)

@klyma

Great melody. Love how this circles back to the title and that opening melodic line.

@bjunker

Sweet. Lovely voice, lovely melody, and meaningful lyrics. You're right, it's fine just as it is, but if you wanted to add to it later that would also be cool.

You have a very pleasant voice to listen to. Great song

I think this one deserves a finish. It's a great universal message, and I'm sure lots of people would enjoy hearing it.

How lovely. I'm moved by the overall theme of being present for everything and the particular poignancy of "as it unravels." This works as it is, with the simple melody in your unadorned voice highlighting the nakedness of openness.

This sounds really good, and I’d love to hear it with music! Your song is the final entry in my follow list before FAWM ended, and it absolutely counts ❤️

@skyezor

It all counts babe! This is beautiful and an encouraging balm to the spirit- also, darn Katie- Your voice is so lovely!

@elliet555___ probably very similar but I wanted it to be easy for the collaborator to hear the exact notes to create the instrumentation/find chords for it. I would totally be willing to send you the untreated version 😊 I also have a I think three songs this year that were phone recordings or one-takes with one mic that I did not put any effects on so I guess those could give a good idea of the unturned sound as well

like it a lot.. and very poignant ... can't help be curious how it would sound without auto tuning...
