Cameo (In Your Dreams)

Liner Notes
#dreampop (or something) #biab Ok, dropping in a second song here that was put together the week just before the FAWM green flag was actually waved today. I'm going to miss a few days of FAWMing in week 3, so I'm rationalizing that this is only marginally cheating. And whereas my first three this year are ones stripped down to the barest bones, this one is a full blown production number with some instrumental help by my session musician bandmates courtesy of Band In A Box.
I'm definitely late to the party for being a fan of Australia's The Paper Kites, but I listened to "At the Roadhouse" about a hundred times last year and it definitely bled into the thinking for this one.
Lyrics
Cameo (In Your Dreams)
V1 You’re swirling again Autumn leaves in the wind Every time you leave him You grieve a little less But I can heal your bitter heart We can work on the rest
Chorus All I really want Is a cameo In your dreams For you to wake and wonder Why you found me there What it means Let me be the one who changes Everything
V2 How deep should I dig Am I thinking too big What memories are sacred When ignorance is bliss Should we even care about Stuff as trivial as this
Repeat Chorus
BR Your perfect silhouette Still a shadow It’s ok to forget All the pain You’ll bloom like a rose Reaching for the rain
Repeat Chorus

Wow, Jeff - what an inventive love song. I know how powerful having someone show up in dreams in a spot they don’t belong can really be the thin edge of a life-changing wedge. The lyric feels so sure and the harmonies feel like the dream of togetherness.
Love this one 👏
Very poignant. Who hasn't felt unrequited love?
I really like this, Jeff. It's a bit out of your "usual" (whatever that is these days...) but that soothing tone you give to your vocals here is super relaxing. I wasn't able to get in any listening the first two weeks and I see you have given me some catching up to do!
A song that just transports and transfixes...you've got such a rich voice and the production is perfection!
Lovely song. I don't know the Paper Kites (I'll go and listen after this) but I hear echoes of other great Australians, the Triffids and Go Betweens. Great to hear a big production.
One of your best. I think I've mentioned that BIAB is what I use for my own backgrounds--been using it since 1992. You've got the skills down--a really terrific arrangement! And, that vocal... ❤️
I love how the Chorus comes in...so dreamy. And the story is right up my alley. Nice work.
Beautiful romantic song, singing and playing. So wonderful to listen to. Warm and welcoming.
Simply beautiful. Bravo! Wonderful vocal, along with top-notch performance & an excellent mix.
Yes lovely and wistful, nostalgic, romantic. ‘Cameo in your dreams’ is a great concept and sentiment. My favourite line is ‘like a rose reaching for the rain’. Awesome
Lovely romantic song. Your vocals are tight and your lyrics are welcoming. Good stuff for your second song here today! :)
Beautiful lyrics so romantically sung! Love this!
this is super romantic. the chorus is brilliant, with one of those lines that is so spot on that it is a wonder nobody thought of it before. the production is so slow and relaxed. this is a song to win the heart of any girl so disposed.
Twangtastic! Nice production and no need to rationalize anything. We’re all here for the fun and the ride full of new and wonderful sounds. Nice song!
Okay, you definitely have a new fan. This is wonderful, I love it.
Love the full production here, sounds good. The line "Every time you leave him / You grieve a little less" is so intriguing and really sets the rest of the song up. And then in the chorus "For you to wake and wonder / Why you found me there", love that. So good, what a great idea. I like the word cameo. I feel like it has been ruined for me by the commercial service where you pay celebrities to read a short script for you. So in that regard, I like it in the song a lot, we need more of this and less of that. A cameo in a dream, what a cool thought. I will say I was thrown off by the line "Stuff as trivial as this", as it doesn't feel trivial at all, but maybe I'm just missing it (i will be stewing on this one for a while i think). Also, the bridge sounded great, and the "bloom like a rose / reaching for the rain" is great.
