Whispers in the NIght
©️2025 Words and Music by Sharon Stepler
I’m not broken I’m not fragile I walked through fire and darkness and survived I am alive
I know the truth now That’s all I needed I’m not sure why I’m carrying these stones And brittle bones
The morning sun is warm upon my face I’m telling you Everything’s all right Don’t ask about the whispers in the night
I am safe now It doesn’t matter I don’t need to talk about it all I didn’t fall
I have scars now I don’t know why How they came to mark me I can’t say I’ll never say
The morning sun is warm upon my face I’m telling you Everything’s all right Don’t ask about the whispers in the night
I’m not broken I’m not fragile I walked through fire and darkness and survived

I found you through the alt country forum! Those vocal lines at the end of the verses are haunting and super beautiful. This song has weight behind it. Like a life well lived.
This is so memorable and pulled me right in! Good to hear you!
This is really haunting. It's like looking at a Van Gogh self portrait. You're burdened with scars, you're carrying stones, and you don't know why. Ahh! It's a scream from deep in the inner darkness that never reaches the surface.
Interesting tuning. Adds some subtle melancholy I didn't expect from a uke. The lyrics are very strong
Hi Sharon, I love it.
This is such beautiful vocal performance, love the rhythms that you sing the words at too, gives it a really raw and powerful impact.
This gave me goosebumps.. how lovely, how utterly lovely. Thank you so much.....
Hauntingly beautiful! Such an interesting tone and vibe to the recording! Makes me wanna give you a hug! Great job! Blessings!
What a powerful write. The narrator has been through stuff but bravely continues.
The line "I'm not sure why I'm carrying these stones" is such an accurate line to describe living with PTSD (at least from my own personal experience). Also, the line, "don't ask about the whispers in the night" is such a haunting refrain. I also love how it switches at the end to "I walked through fire and darkness and survived". Thank you so much for sharing this!
