Take The Day Off

by @headfirstonly Mod

Liner Notes

I was going to take the day off but instead I wrote a song called "Take The Day Off".

This is what FAWM does to you, ladies and gentlemen.

As always, #bigProduction as a cross between #FAWMtronica and #prog with lots of hardware and software #synths involved, as well as #harmonyGuitars, because that's my thing

Lyrics

Take the day off Your work/life balance Has begun to feel off Others may scoff, but There's more to living Than just snouts in the trough

Your boss creates dismay By doing childish things Lies each time they say They wouldn't want to clip your wings And you can't walk away Not knowing what the future brings So simply take the day And disappear

You know you're being thick It's not you who's the dick Ignore the lunatic And call in sick

Life is much too short Make time to find your joy without getting caught (that is likely to annoy) Don't be such a worrywart You're not their golden boy It's not your last resort So have no fear

Don't ever feel ashamed Even if you think you should Work is just a game, like understanding adulthood Trust me when I claim that this is for your greater good Management's the same; work's not what it appears

Oh, what an interesting combination of sounds and melodies. I really like this lyric too. Good advice. We all need an extra day off at times. I hope you're able to "take the day off" now that FAWM is over. 😀 This is a very enjoyable, unique song. Glad I stopped by to hear this.

The recommendation thread brought me here, and it seems like it's the sogn I needed to hear before my work day starts. And nope I still haven't understood work yet. So many great wordplays here, and the "you know you're being thick" part is so typical HFO! Good work on the sounds. Playful synths

Positive vibe track, all sounds great and nice guitar work!

I don't get it? But then I'm retired, so every day is a day off, although I sometimes wonder how I found the time to go to work?

This felt more 'Blancmange' to my ears - (and I've only been retired a couple of years, so can still identify with the lyrics).

I should have heard this 40 years ago. I worked for some challenging folk but missed 4 days in 15 years. Good song well done.

Agree with that there’s a Sparks vibes, meets Mike Oldfield, dig the “You you’re being thick …” prechorus lyric's.

@danxduran

If your voice was an octave or two higher, this could pass for a Sparks tune!

Love the production, as always. Is that bass, or the chapman stick? This theme should be played over the loudspeakers in the office whenever someone calls in sick!

‘Ignore the lunatic’. That is a mantra we should all live by these days. Great music and mix as usual Chris. Love the song and the lyrics.

I like how you hit on the first notes! Nice crisp synths! So take the day off taking the day off!

@fuzzy

Well, I consider making music to be "taking the day off". I have never needed any encouragement to take a day off from work.
Lovely anti-Capitalist lyrics. I'm liking the doubled vox approach. Ah, that big fat bass immediately appeals. And of course the lofty serene guitar solos flying around up there. Only you could make 4/4 sound like an odd-time sig (it IS in 4/4, right?!?). Another winner.

@aeye

You and I are both really bad at taking the day off and taking breaks haha. Mix sounds super clean and clear. Awesome as always.

Love the way the lyrics flow with the groove. Man can I ever relate to this one!!! Have to do the 9-5 grind to survive but it really is a dire environment for creatives...love this!
