Dark Cloud
Liner Notes
Probably gonna redo the audio at some point. My hands were not cooperating today I’m tired 🤣
Lyrics
They say “when it rains, it pours” But I’ll be damned if I’m caught in that storm Maybe someday they’ll learn To bring an umbrella every where they turn
Always stepping in a puddle Always got the wrong shoes on People always in a scurry To get home before the dawn I wait up to see the sun rise Nobody waits for me I wasn’t the last to know But maybe you’re the last to see
There’s a dark cloud coming I won’t let it rain on you Don’t you go running And that cloud won’t follow you
You chalk it up to your luck Say you’re “deep in the mud” And you know it ain’t right A single raindrop steals your fight
Always waiting for the sunshine
Hiding in the corridors
The storm is only getting closer
Thunder shakes the wooden floors
Scared to death to go outside
The lightning won’t let you be
It only follows those who let it
Just you wait and see
There’s a dark cloud coming I won’t let it rain on you Don’t you go running And that cloud won’t follow you
I once had a dark cloud held over my head I stitched the sun to the sky With a radiant thread
There’s a dark cloud coming I won’t let it rain on you Don’t you go running And that cloud won’t follow you

On this one, I was focusing on the lyrics, and I was charmed by the very first verse. And then it just got better, with: "Always stepping in a puddle, always got the wrong shoes on." You have a gift of writing with spot-on imagery.
This is the first of your songs I've ever listened to, so I'm probably premature in any comments. You are clearly an accomplished songwriter. This song has real potential. Your verse chord progression surprised me when I first heard it, and I love that. I'd like to hear that progression emphasized. You're already fingerpicking it, so I don't know, maybe a second guitar or other instrument can play a counterpoint to really bring out that move to the Eb7 and the to the Fm. Sorry, I'm arranging here. Then I love this chorus. I hear this sung in harmony, maybe with a call/response on the first two lines. Again, please excuse my impertinence. It was a pleasure listening to this!
Nice write! A lyric filled with clever turns (e.g., folks scurry to get home before the dawn the narrator waits up to see) keeps grabbing the listener's ear.
"Always got the wrong shoes on" is a gem.
Wow, amazing vocal control! Picking pattern is mesmerizing as well. Very good pairing of the chords and your voice. U should def publish this one it’s very good. Happy FAWM!!
Love the juxtaposition. Great easy listening. Im feeling like you have a full FAWM here!
