Spoon

Liner Notes

A valentine song for my wife is a FAWM tradition. I'm a lucky man: we take turns being big spoon.

Lyrics

Curl up like a cat and I’ll be your sunbeam You be the sweet and I’ll be the dreams Be my butterfly and I’ll be your cocoon I’m the hot air, you’re my balloon

Beside you is all I want to do Let me hold you, let me hold you Little spoon

You fill my cup because you’re my cup of tea Your hand is the glove my heart is the sleeve You be the tides I’ll be the full moon Life's our first dance, we're the bride and groom

Beside you is all I want to do Let me hold you, let me hold you Little spoon

This is so sweet! I love all your pairings! Beautifully played and sung! - Natalie

This is so sweet and complete. I love the quirky and specific pairings you start off with (and also the more complicated images/relationships in V2). It's a sentiment and relationship that feels real. Love this one!

Intimate, simple and gorgeous. This could melt any heart. The shivers are off the scale when those harmonies kick in.

In which Phil launches his annual demolition of my heterosexuality. My god, man, your voice. Beautiful little guitar part too.

Taking turns being big spoon is essential…in more ways than just cuddling. Sometimes I just need my wife to tell me everything is gonna be ok…and vice versa. So it’s a very apt metaphor. Pretty tune that’s well written and perfectly executed

oh man, this is so sweet <3. I love the chorus and the focus on the spoon.

Awww, what a great love song. Simple, sweet, and beautiful

my god, that first line made me stop in my tracks. what beautiful, brilliant poetry there, and throughout this entire song. "Life's our first dance, we're the bride and groom" is such a masterful distillation.

you have one very lucky wife, it sounds like. ☺️ i hope the benefits of being married to a songwriter far outweigh the costs. 😜

(my wife and i also take turns being big spoon and little spoon and it's one of my favorite things. why decide? they're both the best. 💙)

That first verse though! I love the detail in this and the chorus ‘let me hold you little spoon’ is inspired. Says so much with very little words.

The imagery in the first verse in particular is beautiful. Holding each other is definintely part of the fun of a relationship. Pretty and charming song.

Damn, Phil. Somebody gonna get lucky tonight. This is so fine. Reminds me a little of a truly wonderful singer songwriter called Robbie Hecht. Delicious lyrics, tune and performance. Applause.
