Heartbeat

Skirmish: Breath, breathing, breath... (@robinleaf)

Liner Notes

So, I started this with the breath track, and got interrupted rather thoroughly. But eventually I returned to it, adding the cahon and acoustic bass, and then gave up as I was falling asleep over the keyboard. Tonight I returned again, to write some words and add a vocal track. So, while this was inspired by the skirmish, it certainly wasn't finished in an hour!

Lyrics

Heartbeat

It starts in darkness. A tiny group of cells starts to pulse Does it falter at first? Maybe But then it finds a rhythm Oh, yes, oh yes Life

It grows in darkness This tiny, new-grown heart One with a larger self That, supported by its rhythm Grows, Grows Strong

It stays in darkness Protected by ribs, muscles, skin A brain and a mind That learns more rhythms Eating, Breathing Song

Sheltered in darkness It beats through a lifetime Supporting the body The mind, the soul, the spirit Rhythm, Rhythm Life

Beating in darkness Faster for excitement Slower for rest One day, it falters, stutters One day, One day It Stops

What an excellent choice of instruments - fits the poetry of the spoken word so well. Compelling song - lots for me to think about personally here. Wonderful!

You describe the hear with such mysterious, hieratic words ! There is something ominous in the instrumental melody. #tit4tat

The miracle of life in a song. What a wonderful idea and wonderful demonstration. I like the bass line, and the breathing is cool. Really brings the listener into the song. The end was unexpected, but real.

Meditative, but slightly sinister, with the relentless acoustic bass line. Nice bed for spoken word. The poetry of the lyrics reminds me a bit of diamante, with the repetition of nouns in one line, verbs in another. I don't find the ending sad - just matter of fact. I never really considered the heart being in constant darkness - food for thought. Well constructed and powerful work. #tit4tat

Really nice ambience in this one, with the breath and the bass, almost like a meditation. I like how it goes from darkness to darkness!

Oh! That was a very sad ending. Clever arrangement though and powerful stuff.

I found this both mysterious and quite relaxing. That slow, even bass line works so well with the heartbeat rhythm. It's a great platform for those thoughtful lyrics. Inspired stuff!
