07. Cancer Moon
Liner Notes

Despite this project being about loss and grief, I'd kick myself if I didn't have a love song about my best friend and the love of my life tucked in there, and I made sure I'd have it done for Valentine's Day. Except her and I had the day all planned out so I had no time to post it, so here I am, creeping off in the middle of the night to get that done so she can wake up and...honestly probably not be able to hear it for the whole long weekend XD Ah well, this is another gift to her because she deserves it.
It's another simpler pop-y song, and I think that this project needs some of that before we return to Bummerville.
On the first album of this trilogy that I started last year is the song Pisces Sun, another song about the parts of me that are head over heels with her. I'd like to think that they pair up well.

Lyrics
Verse 1: We were both On the downside looking above To a place that was cold, Quiet and so Indifferent to us.
Pull me back To the world within your eyes. Oh no, my ego is dead, I can't think with my head, You keep me tongue-tied.
Pre-Chorus 1: Allow me to introduce myself, Running from my failures I'm the sad man Whose in love with you.
I'll take all the worst of me, And I'll leave it For the best of you.
Blame it on the Cancer Moon.
Chorus: Deep down, in the roots I'm a fool Who assumes every core is rotten. Right now, if we ditch this town, Will our flaws be gone and forgotten?
How far will we take this car Before the end of the road is beneath it? Black heart on the dash in some marker In a spot where we can see it.
Blame it on the Cancer Moon.
Verse 2: Let me tell you, babe you've got me Even more than you know. Yeah sure, I ain't getting younger But all the heat and the hunger Still got me down in a chokehold.
I remember the songs playing out In every small town We wandered the streets of, And I remember those dark little glances That you gave me when you wanted me alone.
Pre-C 2: Allow me to introduce myself, Chasing my tail, I'm the madman whose Crazy for you.
I'll take all the rest of me, And I'll give it to The best of you.
Blame it on the Cancer Moon.
Chorus 2: Your touch is like the taste of a drug That pulls me up and lets me know I'm gonna make it. Too much of a damn good thing leaves you Open like a raw nerve, naked.
Baby, yeah I know it ain't deep, But all the moves that I got, well, you taught me. Catch me in the twist of the sheets Where the bed meets your body.
Blame it on the Cancer Moon.
Bridge: Oh, how far Do I have to run to Just escape the stars?
Oh how do I repair the broken Pieces of my moon?
Outro: How do you feel When you hear my voice? When the end is near And you hear the siren sound, I'll meet you at the Edge of Town.
I promise, When the world begins to fall apart You know, I'll drive us to the edge of the coast.
And if it don't come true, Blame it on the Cancer Moon.
Comments
Well this is one punchy song "about loss and grief" ! I love the line "blame it on the cancer moon". I'm not sure what it means for those who believe in astrology. Iread it's sign of empathy...
Awesome production on this. Really great stuff. The lyrics here really articulate the feelings well.
As someone who has a Cancer Moon, I had to listen to this one! Agreed with the other comments on your singing, and the really great lyrics here. The effects here are cool too. Nice job.
Such a compelling impression of real love -- the specifics of "I can't think with my head/ You keep me tongue-tied" and so many other bits that show that love is real, specific, complicated. But it's how "When the world begins to fall apart . . . I'll drive us to the edge of the coast." Also, love the vocals here!
You are really a great singer. Timbre, tone, range, you use it well. And the writing is very good and creative. Whole production is slick and bulletproof.
This is so sweet! I love the little vocal "ups" throughout. The prechorus lyrics especially caught my attention, very well written and so honest! I'm loving seeing how all these new songs are connected to past ones, you're weaving a magnificent web.
this really reminds me of a band called "minus the bear" (sorry if i've mentioned them before). the vocals from 1m40s on are catchy as hell!! you're on a roll...
I'm always blown away by your voice and delivery. It's just so damn cool. Great chord progressions and melodies, it's so easy to fall in love with a song like this.
Great song Brandon. So many things to like here. The highlight is your vocal’s harmonies and the clear production. Instrumentation is exceptional and I loved it from start to finish. Hope your gal likes her song present!
The sound of that organ (?) Is really captivating. Your vocals on fire. What else can I say?
Dude what an awesome voice! Great title and lovey lyrics. Dig the falsetto notes. The chord progression and instrumentation is great esp the piano, but mostly your voice is the shit! Gotta hear more of that...
The production of this is so well done. Love the intro and movement it brings. What a song. Lyrics, melodies, hooks and instrumentation. Your singing reminds me a bit of Tv on the radio. Really enjoyed this.
