This song is a collaboration with my 8-year-old daughter. She wrote all the words and the melody, and I helped her polish them up, put them into a song form, and add all the chords/instrumentation. We had fun making this mother/daughter collab, and she is excited to release her first-ever song recording. :)
Lyrics
She’s got a thousand songs that were made just for you She thought you’d win but you lost too She thought you were the best guy in the world Until the day she saw you with that girl What happened to the one That helped you when things went wrong?
She went out of town when you let her down She thought you were good, she misunderstood Oh, in her dreams She’s never tired of your schemes
She’s running from you now and you can’t catch her Now you’re the one who’s feeling hurt Because one day she saw you on the sidewalk You were asking her, “Can we please talk?” She said “Don’t even try” So it’s time to say goodbye ‘Cause
She went out of town when you let her down She thought you were good, she misunderstood Oh, in her dreams She’s never tired of your schemes
I know it all really sounds like a big nightmare But it would’ve been worse if she actually cared Long story short, that girl is me My life is like a door and he never found the key
I went out of town when you let me down
I thought you were good, I misunderstood
Oh, in your dreams
I think you still miss me!

I was ready to be all 'ahhh cute!', but this is far from a kid just fumbling around with a silly song she'd be embarrassed about in a few years. This is glorious! That's an insanely great vocal for an 8-year old. Great lyrics, great melody. I used to have some tapes of stuff I made at that age that are sadly in a landfill somewhere, but trust me they were nowhere near this quality haha. Real Taylor Swift vibes from this. SIGN HER UP
Wow! Yes! Great voice with a wonderful melodic sense and phrasing. Catchy. Takes after her mother. This is one of my favorite things that I’ve heard this FAWM.
Very impressive collaboration. What a wonderful gift you’ve given your daughter, a love of music and the support and means to realize her dreams. Sophisticated lyrics and beautifully delivered.
I cannot get over this. Sweet Miss 8 has some increeeeedible vocal and compositional talent! It’s inspiring to hear a piece you helped her generate ❤️
Sorry, Hannah--I have a new favorite female vocalist now. Your daughter.
Seriously, EIGHT YEARS OLD!?! Please incorporate her and let me buy some IPO shares in her future. You KNOW she's gonna be a star someday (maybe starting today). This is just awesome! ❤️
This has all kinds of good building energy with lifting chords to contrast the theme of the lyrics. Kid collabs are the best!
Way to go kiddo! She’s got her mom’s talent for imparting emotion into song 💚
That is amaaazing! Great work.
Impressive control moving between chest and head voice for one so young! Impressive dynamics & harmonies. The opening line grabbed me. The story goes through a range of emotions, and then I love how it cuts to: 'Long story short, that girl is me' - that's pro-level story telling!
Totally charming. I can hear "Mom's influence" in the melody. Great things ahead! Very sophisticated for only 8 years old! What a thrill for the two of you AND the rest of us! So glad you posted this!
Wow! Impressive complex melody and lyrics that are fully-formed and pack an emotional punch. I especially like the harmony/echo in the chorus. Great arrangement and delivery. Well done, Miss Busse (and Mrs Busse, too☺️)!
OMG, so much to process here! First, this is such a sad song. Second, somebody is a natural with a promising future. And third (but not final), you are the luckiest Mom in the whole world. Very nice!
great write indeed, complete with a perspective twist towards the end and that great door and key image. great singing too! you've got a songwriter in the house!
