Tournoyer (Twirling )

by @ambroise

Liner Notes

Is it just me ? When I go to bed tired I feel like I’m slowly falling twirling like a leaf on the wind.

Lyrics

Chorus

I may have asked too much from my eyelids A little too hard on the clock A little too long in the rut I set the bars a little too high , had a little too many last one

But I've found peace in the heart of the night It's my time to surrender, no longer my time to run I'm going back. All being said: I'm done

The others around me are already asleep As he opens me the sheets, I approach the bed And collapse on it as one plunges into the night

chorus: Falling without gravity Twirling spinning I'm the feather of the pillow

The belly first to make a fuss I melt on my bed and eat (hit) the mattress I embrace the horizontal and launch the java

For suddenly under the bed a space is revealed Which, supple, unravels itself. All its night embraces me And the night crosses me and the night overtakes me

chorus

A people of lantern-fish fireflies Who live under the waters of a bottomless ocean Draw the universe with their constellations

I'm escaping vertically (litt. forming a candel), spinning and at random Sneaking agilely under the radar grids I'm like a blizzard-stunned flake

Oh, yes, this is very chill. And yes! I do feel the slow spinning when I close my eyes to try to sleep (and sometimes if I close my eyes when standing, so I don't do it longer than just a quick blink unless something is nearby for me to steady myself against)! Sometimes it is peaceful and relaxing, and sometimes I am nearly asleep when it changes to just FALLING and I jerk awake again. I love the imagery in your song (translated; I can pronounce French thanks to collegiate voice lessons, but never studied the language). (tit4tat)

Very pretty! My daughter enjoyed it so much we needed to listen a second time! Thank you for providing a translation. A very relaxing song! -Natalie

These are wonderfully creative and poetic lyrics (I'm reading them in translation, my high-school French being longer ago than I care to admit). The music is a perfect, gentle accompaniment that mirrors the feeling of slowly falling into a restful sleep. Really well done.

@gm7

Great imagery in a poetic way. Soft music and vocal fit the topic so well. A lullaby for sure. #tit4tat

Peace in the heart of the night. I like the image of being a feather twirling down into sleep. #tit4tat

Ahhhh, so Nice. Love the guitar it has a Jazxy feel to it. Your vocal has a tone that sounds sensual enough to melt some hearts. A nice touch with the harmonica although as someone stated before it is a little bit loud compared to the rest of the music.

I wish I had that Twirling feeling when I went to bed.

Ahhh … and then a sleepy dreamy harmonica!

I love such rich poetry lyrics! So many great pictures you draw with your words! And the calm and dreamy music fits the mood perfectly! The spares intrumentation and the more whispered vocals! Beautiful! „ A people of lantern-fish fireflies Who live under the waters of a bottomless ocean Draw the universe with their constellations“ Wow!

I thoroughly enjoyed this tune. I'm working in the office today and I needed this. I have indeed found myself seemingly twirling and floating in the wind during sleep time. But not a big gust of wind. A gentle breeze of sorts. YOU, have given me an idea.

I love the melody on "Tomber sans gravité, Tournoyer tournoyer" and such a delicate image "Je suis la plume de l’oreiller." Lovely song, Ambroise. Thank you.

Fabulously creative lyrics ... "lantern-fish fireflies," a "blizzard-stunned flake," etc. Love the late-night feel and the whispery vocals. A beautiful song.

@oxymore

C'est parfait à quel point la mélodie nous fait nous sentir léger et somnolent en phase avec les paroles. ♥

Aaaaah! "Like a leaf on the wind" !! J'avais pas vu! You want to kill me! 😭

I am the feather of the pillow…that’s an interesting image. This is restful and pretty.

@tageule

Such beautiful images, and your tender way of singing fits the poetic lyrics perfectly. Wish I could just go back to sleep right now. (It's floating on waves for me, by the way. And then it gets surreal. So, your last two verses felt very familiar.)

@gindark

This is a lovely lullaby. The lyrics and rhyming structure is great! The image of swimming and falling, so perfect. I appreciate that there is some musical technicality I don't fully understand but I can simply say, 'it works for me'! The gentle chorus is very pretty and provides a nice slow, calm contrast to the verse and reminds me of the battle with switching off a busy brain when you are trying to sleep, so this is effective! But the harmonica might need to be a little quieter in the mix if you were using it for a baby ;-) (just kidding! It's all great.)

@nadine

How poetic can you describe the action of falling asleep? I sense that weightlessness. The vocals are nearly spoken in a good chanson tradition.

I learned French for many years but seemed to forgot many words and grammar. Thanks for adding the English translation so I could look up some words....

Delightfully and surreally image-laden lyric, like that feeling you get in a dream. I am thankful for the English translation for filling in the gaps in my vocab as well :)

The Ionian mode makes this feel not as 12-bar blues as it is, somehow. Nice work with that! The harmonica solo was a nice touch as well.
