Bloodstream

Liner Notes

ZeCoop: Leslie told me they were writing lyrics for the poisonous plant challenge and wondered if I could write a hard rocker for it. The lyrics and structure pretty much immediately inspired music, which ended up working perfectly. I recorded the guitars and then my brother was here for the weekend, so I had Rob do the drums. (and he killed it!). Sent it over, got the vocals back from Leslie and finished it up with bass and one more guitar. This song has some SERIOUS attitude!! It is always great writing with Leslie and always awesome getting to play music with my brother!

guatecoop: Good lord guys! Huge voice and huge guitars! Thanks!

Leslie: I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! I don't get to put on my rock voice often enough. It was so much fun to record and it was over too quickly. This song's about a relationship inspired by Monkshood, aka Wolfsbane (Aconitum spp.) where the hunted stands up to the hunter and dares him to just do it already. (My lack of patience makes me reckless sometimes.) I love collaborating with Coop, and it was definite fortune to get to collaborate with Rob on this too.

ZeCoop: Agile Les Paul, Harley Benton Tele into my Hudsonics amp that @dragondreams built. Harley Benton P-bass GuateCoop played my 1973 Ludwig drums wayyyy better than I could. Leslie apparently blew up a microphone and made it bleed in such a good way.

Lyrics

Go deeper than the surface And what do you find? That any chance of surfacing Weighs down the mind

We handled it with kid gloves But it wasn't enough Whenever the gloves came off Things got rough

Seeping in with a touch You can poison so much

I watch as you draw your hood And howl with the wolves Dipping your arrow in You want to be shot of me, good So aim for the bloodstream Aim for the bloodstream Do what your heart's been telling you Do it

I traced it to the root cause But it was too late Just short of causing a scene I chose fate

Sinking into my skin How can it be so thin?

I watch as you draw your hood And howl with the wolves Dipping your arrow in You want to be shot of me, good So aim for the bloodstream Aim for the bloodstream Do what your heart's been telling you Do it

Draw your hood As if I wouldn't know you in the dark Gone for good You hide behind the deer blind And miss your mark I'm a moving target this time A better target this time

I watch as you draw your hood And howl with the wolves Dipping your arrow in You want to be shot of me, good So aim for the bloodstream Aim for the bloodstream Do what your heart's been telling you Do it Do it Why don’t you do it? Do it Aim for the bloodstream

RAWK! I WANNA RAWK!!! Nice rhythm for the open. Straight ahead driving rock, shouty vocal with a bit of grit is excellent, works well for the song. Lyrically, some violent imagery of trying to poison someone with an arrow shot, with the singer taunting and tempting along. Really balls-out vocal stands out to me on this one, great work all.

A really great performance from everyone. I think those rock vocals rock! The energy from this makes me picture it being performed live right in front of mine eyes. :)

@burr Mod

yes, rock this does. leslie may not put on the rock voice often enough, but it's a treat when we hear it... totally works for this one and it feels like the soundtrack to some sort of brawl ready to breakout in an alternate reality cohen brothers movie set in a biker bar in the 70s full of archery hunters or something...

Amazing!!!! Love these skills all layered together in a sonic mayhem of power and defiance🖤🖤🖤 Those guitars are rippin', and the drums are so big and just, all my favourite things about rock. The lyrics blaze on Leslie's voice. That rock voice needs to come out and play more often, friend!🤘🤘

Think I'm glad I wasn't in the room when these vocals where recorded . . . I'd curled up in a ball in the corner.

this whole track meets the specification of a hard rock track.

Top top work hear guys, a good example of when colabs work very very well

Great chorus and vocal slide on "woooooolves." The fact you heard this just from reading the lyrics is quite impressive.
