Lyrics
A Whole Mess Of Trouble
You had on your favorite boots
Galosh splish splash splosh
Summer was a season filled with
Mud and bugs
and hearts that were true
You’d only have a rain jacket If your mom reminded you I clearly remember more than a few Of your brand new shirts, That you ruined
CHORUS: The front drive We slip and slide Flowers all in bloom Head to toe Saturated A whole mess of trouble, us two
Simple times. Simple minds. We’d arrive by bike Wash. Rinse. Repeat. Again & again & again When the sun sank low.. We’d come back in
The mud room covered Without room for much more What an aptly named barrier between the Inside and outside door
Let’s go to the thrift store To see if we can find Two pair of vintage rain boots In our exact sizes And try to Go back in time.
In the front drive
We slip and slide
Flowers all in bloom
Head to toe
Saturated
We're a whole mess…
Of mud
And bugs.
Ah memories.
Just a whole mess of trouble with you

fun and memories, and better yet, not nostalgia and sadness for days gone by, but instead the joyous plan to do it again. Good song, and a good vibe for me today. Thanks.
What sunshiny, rain puddly fun. Love that slip and slide driveway, and all the other visuals. Also the way the music carries all that uncomplicated love. At first I was thinking the singer was the child’s other parent.
What fun, and so vivid! And your bluegrass playing is impeccably right on. Wow!
Such a great tribute to youth and friendship. The lyrics are wonderfully fun, and the music is a rollicking good time all by itself.
Feels like the quintessential @danvaillancourt song. Playful, great rhythms, banjitar ahoy, fun lyrics, and those little stops and starts and chuckles. You can really feel your natural musicality shining through, is what I’m trying to say. Made me smile all the way through :)
Love it, good storytelling. Sounds somewhat like my childhood on a farm, maybe not quite so much fun, more work. Always love a bluegrass song.
That opening banjitar line is really good. Sounds so authentic I started jigging there for a second. Very good instrumental groove and cool vocals too. Great piece!
Love the hard pan of the banjo and guitar + the double voice. Damn, that vocal play with words and sounds - tight! Just a rambling good time with the one you love. Great fun, Dan!
So true: Of your brand new shirts, That you ruined
This is a very DanV song but like the added banjitar to give it a new twist. Nice ditty.
This moves from the opening rat-a-tat through the final line -- love the energy. Great job of putting over the song, like how you sing "ruined", the "uh huh"s. Strong playing and mix (including the treatment of the vocal), which puts the song crisply in the listener's ears. Pleasant theme.
I loved the all layers of strings in this. Nice panning going on. Beautiful playing and fun tune. I enjoyed it!
FUN! Love the banjitar picking and the fun lyric. Splish splosh by gosh this is great.
Nostalgic joy. I felt myself missing this time, even though my childhood wasn't much mud and bugs from what I recall, haha
Oh my -- this arrangement is so much fun (along with the song itself). Love the "Galosh splish splash splosh." This brings back such vivid memories. And the embedded laughs.
A rompin' good time, this! Makes me want to go frolic in a field somewhere. :) I like the mud room verse! Definitely a sweet callback to childhood.
A whole Lotta fun! I can't wait for summer and this reminds me of being a kid again..definitely need some of those simple times. Cool banjo!
Fun pickin', I like when the banjo and guitar are dueling. Fun stuff, and despite the bluegrass sound, has a unique overall feel!
What a damn fine, mighty terrific, wonderful song! So much fun to listen to this! The mix of instruments is perfect for this tale of grand adventures! And your vocal delivery is dyn-o-mite, infusing the song with the genuine excitement of the adventures! I love, Love, LOVE this!
