Our Own Private Love Song

Liner Notes

Blaine says: Had a fantastic time collaborating with Patty! She reached out and sent me these brilliant lyrics. The music wrote itself basically. I could hear it as soon as I read the chorus. Thank you, Patty for making this possible!

Patty says: I’ve wanted to work with Blaine for some time, and it looks like this FAWM was our opportunity to collab. I love what he did with these lyrics. The song has exactly the vibe and energy I was hoping for, and his vocal is perfect for the genre. So easy to work with, too. Thank you, Blaine!

Lyrics

V1 You had the kind of beauty all the other girls craved Sparklin’ so bright you made the rest look plain You rocked a pair of roller blades that put me in a spin Had to get to know you, or I’d lose you in the wind

V2 It took me ‘bout a week to plan my opening move I gave myself a deadline, Friday afternoon You’d never read the classics, but you sure could read the signs Flashing me a smile so big I almost blew my lines

PC And so it began That summer day We both heard the music That still plays today

Ch Our own private love song The look in your eyes The story of us The years, the miles Our own private love song The rest of our lives

V3 Some couples hit it off and always stay on the track Others lose the magic, never get it back Right from the start, you and I were more than friends Stickin’ close together and the feeling never ends

Ch Our own private love song The look in your eyes The story of us The years, the miles Our own private love song The rest of our lives

Br You and I were lucky We could have never met And I’d still be a lonely man Looking for you yet

Ch Our own private love song The look in your eyes The story of us The years, the miles Our own private love song The rest of our lives

The simple turnaround harmony and repeated lines is jsut right for the verses, and the chorus lifts as it should. V3 is so true. i count myself lucky and you've put it simply and clearly in teh lyric (and the chorus). Enjoyed this, albeit so late in FAWM!!

Wonderful marriage of music and lyrics! Great classic rock groove with great guitars and absolutely gorgeous music! Fabulous hook and wonderful perspective on love! Lovely love song. Fantastic chorus!

@saulius

Interesting mix of styles. The verse has a country feel while the chorus is 60’s mod pop. The lyrics couldn’t be any smoother. Beautiful work.

Kind of has a bit of a Monkees vibe to it! Which is cool! Love the double snares in the chorus and yes Patty is a killer lyricist! Love the lead guitar work! Love the bridge chords and melody! Nice BGV’s! Very nice collaboration!

I am such a sucker for this early 90s radio friendly US alt-rock-pop-whatever-it-is. This is such a great crystalisation of everything that is good about that genre. So sunny. By the way, I started writing this complementary comment before I got to the chorus, and **** me, its a total diamond! It delivers on the promise of the opening section. Oh! And now we have a really tasty bridge section. Really, I can't praise the craft enough on this. Del Amitri? Teenage Fanclub? The Connells? Crowded House? This is like that! I haven't commented on the words - which is an omission because you've done a stirling job with them too! They are so... sunny!

Loving this. Great lyrics and a great delivery in the music. It has a bit of a vibe of ‘That thing you do’ to me, the chorus is one of those you really want to sing along to. You really nailed the production for this era. Great collab.

I'll agree with everyone who has mentioned how well the vocals work here, good melody, good performance. The chorus is perfect both in the vocal and in the music and production. Not to mention lyrically, about as good a chorus lyric as you could ask for. This is very well done. An excellent collaboration.

Nice rockin' song. Beautiful production, you really capture the right sound for the lyrics. Nice little guitar hook in there, too. What a great collab!

All kinds of poppy goodness in this. Love the vocals and the chorus is so catchy. Awesome collaboration. 😎

nice work all around! this has that sunny and inevitable feeling that's expressed so well in both the music and lyrics. Lots of fun retro touches, a lot of fun to listen to! love how the chorus changes the feel somewhat, and gives some old style pop chord changes in there. great bridge, too!
