18: Masquerade in C Minor Blues

Liner Notes

While I’ve learned a lot over the years, I still only play entry level piano. I’ve often said that I’m a “synthesist masquerading as a keyboardist”. Hence the title. Recently, I reorganized my studio and thought it would be a shame if I didn’t at least bring my Korg SP-250 into one song.

I’ve been playing this riff for years. In 2018, I released six tracks in an e.p. called ”Repetitive C Minor Blues For Peak and Piano”. https://frozen-lonesome.bandcamp.com/album/repetitive-c-minor-blues-for-peak-and-piano

Recorded and arranged in LoopyPro with no other additional fx than listed. Piano and strings from the Korg through a MS-70CDR. All other sounds from the Hydrasynth.

I love this. Fun to hear another flavor of your skills. This is the type of music that I put on when I want to study or concentrate on something. Love it.

I often say things like… Oh, I don’t really play the …insert instrument that often use such as mandolin, banjo, drums, etc… I’m only entry level… because I know so many people that “really” play it. But I think at some point we can probably claim at least a little credit… haha.. even if we are still learning all the time. I wish my keyboard skills were at your version of entry level.

🙌🎹🎶 this is a really nice one for my last late night of some FAWM hurray before the great shut down.

So peaceful and beautiful! Love those synths washing about, you were subtle and clearly holding back, because the piano is the star for the first while! It sounds like sax coming in halfway? Wow. I love building up and around the piano. Transformative.

Creative music with nostalgic and dark notes. Interesting to follow the adventure unfolding.

there's a lot possible even with "entry level" piano playing—i think this is fabulous and love the choices of synth tones that emerge over that ostinato walking down in the bass. this evolves in a beautiful way growing spacier and more ethereal over time—very minimalist in a wonderfully gripping way

I'm enjoying the mix of ambient sounds. The C minor blues riff works well as an anchor to hold it all together. Nice balance between repetition and new material. as well.
