Tape 8 This was @boz and I's first 4 track collaboration and it was a blast! Thanks so much @mikeskliar and @nancyrost! I had to get a bit creative as we didn't realize @boz's 4 track didn't do regular speed. I ended up mixing the first three tracks together, sent @boz a digital copy, he wrote the lyrics, sang it and sent a copy back. I put that as track one (after the original three tracks on the tape) and then had three more free tracks. I couldn't resist filling them up with electric guitar, baritone and harmony vocals. I doubled the harmony vocal "live" on the final mix down to stereo.

Who played what: @mikeskliar: rhythm guitar @nancyrost: bass @hawkpicker: drums, harmony vocals, electric & baritone guitars @boz: lyrics, lead vocals

Lyrics

You can't hold it all together And it's not about the weather And you don't wanna talk about it You tell me not to make a fuss It's not about me or us But you don't wanna talk about it

Well something ain't the same Someone'll take the blame You won't say it's you You won't say that it's me Still you don't wanna talk about it

CHORUS Well nothing's gonna change If it all stays the same You know you hold the key to it all Can't lock it up inside Cuz there's nowhere you can hide Just waiting' for the curtain to fall

Don't wanna open up the shades Someone'll see the mess you made And you don't wanna talk about it I see you laughing with your friends And you still won't let me in And you don't want to talk about it

Seems there's nothing I can do Now I guess it's up to you You know you hold the key to it all I guess it's hard for you to see What you really mean to me Still you don't wanna talk about it

Chorus

Oh man, as this gains momentum, I think I know exactly what kind of music is going to hit me and I'm so grateful the technical issues didn't render this tune dead before it got out of the gate. Wow, this has a sweet vibe. I'm just letting it float out over me. Very cool.

Really great, full sound - agreed with other comments that this could be an in-room live-band recording so it's remarkable that it was created in an entirely different fashion! Excellent vibe and good performances from everyone involved!

@burr Mod

we've had a couple tapes over the years that were "bounced" and fulled up the tracks for a fuller production. so fun and as usual i'm amazed how this feels like a "real" band (possibly even in the SAME ROOM), not four near-strangers (well, in some cases) mailing a tape across the county. magic. so fun.

I really enjoyed this. I agree with cathreu! This is a terrific colab. well done to all.

@cathreu

I'm really enjoying the singalong and hippie vibes here. The rolling stones wish they wrote this. This feels like a legitimate recording from the 60s or 70s. If you had of told me that, I would have been fool. Very fun, joyous tune.

…very strong tape - great musicality, superb vibe and fun to listen to - funny how those ‚accidents‘ (2-speed-tape only) lead to extra creativity and such a great outcome…

This is completely awesome from top to bottom! Knowing what it took to pull it together belies the seamlessness and organic sound you all made together (separately). Definitely getting Dead vibes and was tapping my toes the whole way through. Excellent job everyone!

WOW! Right from the start, I love the fade in for some of the tracks. Fantastic to see some old fashioned analog bouncing happening. You all have an amazing band! It must have taken a lot of practicing in the garage to figure out how to stay so tight as a band. This is inspirational! You all completely nailed this. :)

Sounds great! There’s definitely something Dead-ish here, and it’s awesome

Oh yeah! This is amazing, such a fantastic song, I couldn't stay still whlie listening to it. I really like these 4-tracks that go beyond just 4-tracks, either by bouncing tracks into one or playing multiple instruments. Super cool, this is a banger!

@george

Amazing. It's like a long-lost Dead track.

This turned out so well! It is amazing what you were all able to create! I love the groove you’ve got going and the wonderful song that emerged through your creative collaborative efforts! Great song that feels so live warm and real!

This sounds so good, like a band in a room. So organic and cohesive. The vocals (backing and lead) are ace and everyone has smashed this. Brilliant stuff!

[avatar]

wow, wow and more wow! This is such a fantastic blast to listen to- little did I know (but of course should have suspected) that everyone else would hit it out of the park from that rhythm guitar part I recorded back on Feb 2nd or something. Great work @nancyrost @hawkpicker and @boz -ya made my day and my week! Really interesting that the 'let's bounce and get more tracks' idea was used (hey, good enough for Sgt Pepper, good enough for me!) and everything added really adds exponentially and makes it all better and better.

This came out great and I think it's my favorite song of this fawm

This has a fun, late 80s college radio feel to it. I’m digging the happy, bouncy music and the thoughtful lyrics. Great collab!

@peccary

Holy cow, everyone. This is really fantastic. I'd swear y'all had this rehearsed and played this live together.

Wow, so fun hearing this now! It's bringing back the fun of getting Mike's bouncy guitar track a few days into FAWM. I love that it left little gaps for other instruments to weave in and out. Such an uplifting rhythm and feel, y'all. The lyrics definitely fit. One of my favorites - these tapes are pretty magical.

@boz

Thanks for letting me in the sandbox for this collaboration- lot of fun just trying to come up with some lyrics that hopefully semi kinda fit! Thanks #Hawkpicker for bailing me out and putting it all together!
