Hieronymus Bosch - Hell - a contribution to the Hardware Jams Challenge
by @fairplay
Liner Notes
[I put this up only because i am running out of time to finish my FAWM - made in february nevertheless, but not intended for FAWM initially]
This was done for the Hardware Jams Weekend Challenge where they showed a painting by Hieronymus Bosch and put up a challenge:
Hieronymus Bosch - Garden of earthly delights - Hell
‚Here we go!! One of my favourite challenges of all time! PICTURE CHALLENGE 2025 it’s here!!!! Today I would love us to embark on a musical journey inspired by Hieronymus Bosch (1450-1516) Dutch painter (Wikipedia page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hierony...) Every time I look at one of his paintings (the more chaotic ones) I see jazz for some bizarre reason, but this is just my interpretation of it. What do you see in this pic? Can you translate it into a jam? Take a look at the painting below and enjoy the journey.

There's some pretty cool tone painting going on here; the warble which about 1:15 and again a little after 2:00 in has some randomish sounds added, as though the time in Hell is causing great distress.
A strong combination of the slow bass warble and the upbeat percussion. And the way it was combined with the video, it gave me a chuckle when I saw the very large shawm(?) and the bass kicked in.
I really love this. It has a Warped Records sound and love those unsettling glitched up horns. I might not get time but if you fancy letting me do some Thom Yorke style vocals over it I’d love to give it a go. [email protected]
Yea this is a jam, love the painting and I feel like this encapsulates it really well. Weird and dark underneath, party on the surface, surreal and strange in between. Nice!
Ah, yes, the horns! There has to be horns ejaculating sounds for Bosch! And they delivered the madness I sought when I clicked on the track. But it's not just mad horns, it's also sinister and dark. Cool tune.
