Seatbelt Sunburn (Amy) [Best Friends #10]
Liner Notes
oooookkkkaaaay! Part of the reason I'm feeling so burnt out is because of how much I put into this track. I think it's...one of the better tracks I've produced (as in, production-wise) on my own? It's still pretty minimal compared to what real people do, but I'm proud of it. :3 I definitely Tried Some Things.
This is for my girl, Amy. It's not the first song I've written for her, but it's a new one.
Lyrics
Seatbelt sunburn in my convertible Driving up I-5 in the summer Seatbelt sunburn in my convertible Driving up I-5 in the summer
Top down, I Am driving Smoking cigarette after cigarette You by my side Reading my mind Picking out the next cassette
Leaning forward Your head under the dashboard To protect your lighter from the wind Passed from your lips to mine As soon as I need the next one Love can look like lots of things
If you let yourself see it
Seatbelt sunburn in my convertible Driving up I-5 in the summer All my pain, yeah I’m gonna wear it Of all my pain, yeah this is the least of it
Not enough sleep Too much caffeine 14 hours, you and me I can’t face Seattle again Without the help of my best friend
Keep me awake as you prattle on Keep me from thinking about him I’ll keep my eyes on the road And it between the ditches If you keep those cigarettes coming
Leaning forward Your head under the dashboard To protect your lighter from the wind....
Seatbelt sunburn in my convertible Driving up I-5 in the summer All my pain, yeah I’m gonna wear it Of all my pain, this is the least of it

Oh first time I hear you on the piano. And this is quite trip hop. I enjoy the bass and the lo-fi mood. Cool groove
Such a chilled out vibe, can definitely see hair flowing in the wind on the highway during this. Digging the reverb drenched instrumentation and lo-fi aesthetic. Great harmonies that really hit the spot too!
Love the bassline on this one, adds such a nice sense of movement to those big dreamy piano chords. The lo-fi vox are really effective too, definitely conjuring up that hazy #chillwave vibe.
Immediately reminds me of Washed Out and all of those sweet Lo-Fi/Vaporwave tracks that pull me back to hazy, restless summer nights. I can feel the amount of work you put in this, and it was worth it. Beautiful memories you're conjuring up. That chorus is so addictive.
"Leaning forward Your head under the dashboard To protect your lighter from the wind"
is one of those lines that is literal, but it feels way deeper than that. I love lyrics like that, which you seem to love too. Great work on everything here!
Ahh, what a great track, it feels so hazy and vibey. Sort of reminds me of some of the 90s/00s indie stuff when they experimented with more hip-hop or trip-hop beats. Feels very visceral, even without the lyrics I'm transported to that sort of scene. The double-tracked vocals are cool af
I absolutely love this. Such a vibe, mood, full of nostalgia and detail that really evokes a moment in time. And awesome work with the production!!
I love the flow of this song and production wise it is very good and experimental. It does sound like you put a lot of effort into it. I like the lyrics a lot too
Cool, laidback groove with some good imagery. I get a little Aimee Mann vibe from this.
Ashley - Seat Belt Sunburn is such a phrase, that I just want to sing it over and over forever, but then the rest is just as good. Those images, oh, my goodness, and the love in every line....I sure hope you are going to put this whole collection somewhere where I can listen to them all and rewind and listen again and again and again...I love how the missing him only comes up that one time...I considered whether the IT in "it between the ditches" could also be US. Which is to say every single word is just right.
