God Wrote a Song

Suddenly I had this urge to sit down and write a quick song, I looked through old notes and found a title only from 2021 called "God Wrote a Song" which I had no memory of. I just sat down and wrote it in about 20 minutes.

And on the 8th day God wrote a song He’d never heard of Top 40 Radio But he still knew it shouldn’t be too long

It was a Monday The day after he took a good rest He’d just built the entire universe
 and he was looking for a little zest

He was a little tired Not really on his game Creation can be so exhausting Plus giving all those animals names

Creatively He wasn’t coming up with much A couple dirty limericks He knew it was just a crutch

And on the 9th day God cheated a little bit He created the rhyming dictionary And the concept of dry wit

He looked down upon Earth And wondered what was going on Are they gonna do good there
 Or are they gonna invent the atom bomb?

That thought jogged
 God’s empty mind 
He sat down to write a protest song But couldn’t come up with the first line

Billions of years went by And he hadn’t even got to the 2nd verse This songwriting’s harder than he thought he said And I built the entire universe

20 minutes. Damn. Ask most people what they can do in 20 minutes and they'll probably just stare at you with a blank expression on their face for 20 minutes. Songwriting is hard! I haven't had any song come to me really quickly this year. Always feels like such a gift when that happens, like you're really channeling something. Love the idea that God created the whole world but got stumped when it came to songwriting...and that he wanted to write a protest song. This one just sounds so natural, like it's always existed in some way. Effortless...which I suppose it was. Really cool.

Wow. That is impressive for a 20 minute writing session. So many clever lines and ideas. “This songwriting’s harder than he thought he said“. I loved that. He’s right as we all know. Especially getting 14 done when u only got 12 ideas. Another great year for u Joe.

Song writing is no piece of cake. Any God will tell ya. I like this perspective. I like the line about giving animals names.
