Love on Loch Long

Liner Notes

About 8 years ago I went to an artist residency in Scotland, a beautiful site with huge windows overlooking Loch Long.

For the longest time I've wanted to write about my experience of watching the sun set over the hills, the light dancing on the water, the joy of having nothing to do, limited phone signal and just the beauty of nature all around - but with some context.

I associate my love for my country with a romantic, deep, trusting love. So it made sense for me to use this inspiration to write a love song.

Lyrics

VERSE The sun goes down Across Loch Long As I think about my love

Where he lays at night Away from city lights So far from my home

CHORUS He has me More than he knows I’ve had love before But none like this, so slow

Please, don’t go again I’ll never spend All my love for you

But if you’ve had enough Of what we’ve got It’ll break heart would break in two

CHORUS ’Cause you have me More than you know I’ve had love before But none like this, so slow

BRIDGE And I’ll be right here ‘til the final hour When our lungs lose their breath Hand in hand we’ll walk together Come what may

The sun sets now Far from loch long But I’m at home with you

We lay at night Under the starry light The colours and the hues

CHORUS You have me This now you know I’ll not leave your side And just like this we’ll go Just like this so slow Just like this we’ll grow Just like this you know I go anywhere you go

Love how this morphs seamlessly from old Scottish folk song to polished pop (I didn’t spot the band sneaking up onto stage, but it’s bloody marvellous when that kicks in!). And the story behind it is so lovely. Stunning vocals/harmonies once again. The way you’re slowly bringing in the guitars at the end is masterful. Wonderful song :)

This is gorgeous. I love that 'you (you) have (have) me' bit. All the backing vocals are so well done here. And as others have said, it opens up beautifully in the bridge. This sounds like a magical place

Damn. I'm getting all mushy again with this. All it needs is the pipes and I'd be in tears... Those melodies are so UPLIFTING! And then that bridge... ah, @adforperu was right. That's majestic!

Beautiful Song Rosie. You can take the girl out of Scotland.... Your song reminds me of why I live here - and why I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. When the weather is kind there's no more wonderful place to be - and it's been kind today. :-)

Great harmony singing. The bridge is great but I actually love all of it equally. Special stuff.

I loved how you wrote simplified lyrics and then applied a powerful and dynamic vocal approach to deliver them.

This is beautiful, and has that sound of a classic folk song. And I like how it all builds up into that soaring bridge. Great stuff!

Gaaaah, I love songs where the bridge is the best bit! Not to do a disservice to the rest of it as it's all great, but that bit really takes off like a jet. A great sense of dynamics here, and great harmonies as you always do. I really like how the ending ramps up but you don't "kick in" again, it'd feel a bit diluted if you did.
