I Bury the Bodies
Liner Notes
Last month one of the streaming services had a free weekend, so I popped my head in to see if there was anything new and interesting. There was not. We ended up watching a movie so middling I can neither remember its name nor summon the will to spend two seconds googling it. All I can say is that George Clooney and Brad Pitt were rival fixers who cleaned up inconvenient murder scenes and bantered a bit. It was the sort of film that goes down without any friction, then leaves you with no impression beyond 'that was a movie I watched'. Anyway, I've decided to write a song about a fixer so I can pretend to myself that I didn't actually waste two hours of my finite existence. I was doing 'research'.
P.S. I'm not an autobiographical songwriter. I am rarely, if ever, required to dispose of dead bodies for my partner. One of the reasons I love her.
Lyrics
i get the call, you give me the location i pack the bleach and the long blue gloves this is love
i scan the room, assess the situation you try to tell me you just found him there i don't care, i'm in love
i guess it's true you have a little temper but tell me who has never done a silly thing when they're in love
you lock the door and check the room for cameras i clean the bloodstains off the bathroom wall i'm appalled, i'm in love this is love
you make a mess, i tidy up the bodies another day, another shallow grave i behave like a man who's in love
we make mistakes there's someone here to fix it i lie awake, just waiting for another call 'cause this is love

Amusingly and cleverly offbeat, maybe one of the strangest love songs I've ever had the pleasure to hear. Very imaginative and the music and the little sounds you throw in here and there make it quite an enjoyable listen.
Tarantino should film this.. Well, I suppose he already has in a way 😈.
I wrote a song this FAWM after watching one of those truly forgettable movies that inspired your song. In case you fancy hearing it, it's here:
I love those little musical embellishments, if that's the right word and the small bass in there. It's interesting and dark. Sounds like the character sure likes their job lol nice work!
Wonderfully quirky dark and delightful profound expression of love! What a fun song and listen! Love the jaunty guitar strum chord changes and great melody delivery with your gentle unassuming vocals.
I like the toggle between major and minor. The delivery made me laugh just thinking of how blase you are about cleaning up horrific scenes. Couple years ago I did a skirmish that ended up with the narrator cleaning up and getting a rental car to drive the body out to the country to dump it. My husband was afraid of me for weeks!!!
eros and thanatos entwined in one of your trademark skits - what a treat! apart from that disastrous film that particular service does have some nice series though...
yup we have cut back on those activities. I love the beat and those sort of weird interventions. really entertaining.
Way to turn a meh movie into lemonade! Dark and twisted, which was fun when paired with the lilting vocal.
Roald Dahl, all the way. Marvelous, but needs an ending. You have disarmingly original ways of arranging your tracks.
Liked your vocals on this. The mellotrons were the first big surprise. Made me happy, this one. Yes.
Cool staccato rhythms and gypsy vibe, feels like it just needs a ripping nylon guitar solo. Lots of fun in these lyrics feels like you've musicized the film perfectly.
This had me beaming with delight..... -and I don't watch movies anymore, I prefer to get lost in Bill Evans piano chords.. although after a few minor # 11's I'm not quite sure what key I'm in.... sigh.... but thank you for such levity. And I love your voice. Pearse
This is delightfully silly and you’re clearly having fun. 2 hours of Clooney and Pitt? Well done sticking it out. Sounds like the sort of movie I would’ve lasted about 10 minutes with.
I really enjoyed this. And the story you have sounds better than the Clooney/pitt one
Oh, yes, the very explicit explanation of "I would do anything for you." I love the idea of cleaning up the bodies as a way to waltz into someone's good graces... Wondering if there might be one more verse knowing the beloved will off you once you've bloomed and faded, but saying they'll have to clean you up themselves.
