One Man's Spinach

Liner Notes

Somehow, it wouldn't be a FAWM without a #collab with @mctown and @vaughan_ray 😄 I'd been sitting on these cool, quirky lyrics for a few weeks, and really wanted to do something with them before the end of the month. But I couldn't get my head around a style that seemed to fit. What you hear is essentially the sound of an increasingly desperate musician throwing everything at the wall and hoping a small part will stick. By way of illustration, I ended up with approximately 30 tracks dedicated to vocals 😲 . And I've recorded the whole thing today, because I'm a lunatic.

Anyway, as always, thank you David and Vaughan! #poprock #toomanyvocals

Lyrics

Joe had been married before And gone through a messy divorce  He took up with Jean Who treated him like a King Finally found what he'd been looking for (one thing’s for sure)

One man's spinach is another man's Kryptonite You can spin it any old way you like The same someone you love Could ruin someone else's life One man's spinach is another man's Kryptonite

Olive Oyl was a skinny little miss But she was the woman Popeye could not resist Lois Lane wasn't cool              She thought Clark Kent was a fool But he was Superman with just one kiss (Now she's convinced)

One man's spinach is another man's Kryptonite You can spin it any old way you like The same someone you love Could ruin someone else's life One man's spinach is another man's Kryptonite

Love don't seem to know where, how, or why but it sure does help us make it through the night

One man's spinach is another man's Kryptonite You can spin it any old way you like The same someone you love Could ruin someone else's life One man's spinach is another man's Kryptonite

One man’s spinach (one man’s spinach!) x4 One man's spinach is another man's Kryptonite

@nadine

Don't tell me you have 30 vocal tracks. I would go completely crazy mixing that. But the song itself is a bop. Sounds like I expect from David Taro plus fun lyrics. On which side are you concerning spinach? I hate it.

Ha! A fun pop track all round. Goes to show a good solid musical backing and vocal talent can transform any lyric!

Haha. These lyrics are quirky and fun but the song sounds so cool that you could say anything that I just want to shout it to the rooftops. Catchy rock and roll at its best.

I needs me spinach. Very cool tune. Your production really shines here. Feels like an underdog story to me…comes across very triumphant!

the refrain is brilliant and i love all the different vocals by david. it had to be that way because the musical tracks are so heavy. i also like how it is pointed out that olive oyl and lois lane were no glamourpusses, unlike the heroines in today's marvel movies.

I think I've spun this 21 times and like it more each time! Kinda scratches my "spin-itch" you might say! Hey, I'm a David 🥪 sandwich! 😉

Brilliant song! Clever quirky lyrics delivered with such a fabulous groove! Love those vocal layers and the wonderful spoken bits. Fantastic heavy kick and guitars. Cool guitar. Love that soaring bridge. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 love the acapella chorus! Damn catchy!!!!

I'm gobsmacked. The smashing together of these two long standing pop-culture icons is ... properly profound. It's genius. Such a good idea for a song. SO DAMN SINGABLE. Fabulously arranged as always and ... too many vocals? Surely you mean NOT ENOUGH, sir!!??? (For real this is the kind of thing you want a primary school class to be singing on!)

if there was ever a popeye/superman buddy comedy, this would have to be the theme song. i love it. the lyrics are so fun. great group vocals. 30 tracks??? that’s crazy but it sounds just right. that chorus is suuuuuuuper catchy

Cool song, thanks to you folk, listening....and to David Taro and Vaughan...onward we go...

What a lyric. Just a fun way to make your point. The chorus is catchy as can be. I think my favorite part is the break when the music drops out and also vocal trac number 23k which is just perfect! DT, what more can I say. Love you man…You da bomb!

@sbs

Thought the title was “one man’s Spanish” - lol! Never would have thought about rhyming before and divorce. Must file that away - lol! Fun head-bopping tune.

David there are never too many vocals when they sound this great and stacking them is so much fun! Love the octave doubles! What a great lyric "One man's spinach is another man's Kryptonite". The guitar solo is awesome over that organ synth. LOVE the instrument dropout and we just get to hear you! This song was a total bop and I enjoyed every note. Yay - a call and response at the end - both with vocals and guitar. Great collab!!
